Chapter Nine

Manhood: The Forgotten Virtue

The greater part of this book is unisex, that is, its teachings apply to both men and women equally. This chapter is the only exception. One of the greatest lacks in the world today is true manhood. This lack is the cause of a great deal of human misery and suffering. There is little doubt that what is now called spousal abuse is nothing less than a lack of manhood on the part of the men involved. No real man would ever abuse a woman or child; his inherent honor and integrity would not allow it. So it is with every other matter that is his responsibility. He will do nothing that will compromise his word, honor and integrity.

Today such qualities are so rare that the villains of old now look like men of high character beside our present heroes. Herod the Great would not break his promise to Salome even though he know her request would not be to his political benefit. It would be difficult, if not impossible, today to find a leader who would have such honor and integrity in the face of political suicide.

A man's honor is of his Soul, not his mind. When he lets his honor be compromised, he sells his Soul to Mephistopheles. He is no longer a man but only an inferior male animal (the other male animals live in harmony with the qualities and attributes given them by their Creator.)

The moment an individual loses his manhood he begins to descend into a state of bondage, bartering his Divine heritage, possibly unconsciously, for serfdom. In the last analysis the measure of a man is the measure of his honor, integrity, honesty and his desire to do that which is for the best welfare of all mankind. Any deviation from this course dilutes his manhood and, if continued, will eventually destroy it altogether. Once this is lost, though he have all the riches in the world, he is morally and Soulularly as poor as a church mouse.

Likewise, the moment a nation loses its sense of strength and manhood and devotes itself to securing the luxuries of life, it commences to decline and decay. Simultaneously, as it weakens, other nations seek to rule it, hold sway over it and gradually subjugate it. This subjugation may be by a conquering army or by a control of the nation's wealth through manipulation of its finances.

Manhood, the conscious recognition of the power one inherently possesses and the constant effort to maintain and protect its integrity, is the only safeguard of liberty. It is the treasure that guarantees man his freedom, not only exemption from the tyranny of others, but immunity from destructive vices, from sickness and from the pitiful bondage to his own negative thoughts and moods. Say what we will, the strong ever rule the weak, and a negative or compliant goodness is no protection whatever. The man who yields unresistingly to his own weakness, to the entreaties of others or to untoward circumstances lacks manhood. He is far from true independence, the inheritance of the strong, and is ignorant of the Path leading to Power(1), Health and Happiness. -----------------------------------------------
(1) Power can be misused, but without it nothing of lasting value can be achieved.(See Chapter Ten.)
-----------------------------------------------

Let us not confuse the manhood we espouse with masculine aggressiveness and machismo. These are the antithesis of true manhood. Though like all such things these emotions may have their root in the basic nature of manhood, they are actually a perversion of its real values. Men were given a different hormonal nature from women for a purpose. Their internal milieu has outfitted them for their place in God's creation, It has, as the song goes, given them the ability to dream the impossible dream, to fight the invincible foe and to bear the unbearable sorrow. It will encourage them to do all those things that will lead them to do all those things that will lead them to a greater understanding of the Creator's world. It will drive them to push their abilities to the limit to bring them closer to the creativity that God desires from them.

However, as mentioned, the glory of true manhood is not only in strength, power and aggressiveness but in the direction of these traits for the benefit of all humanity and especially of those who are weaker than themselves. The true man will always defend the weak and powerless, but more than this, he will do his best to teach the weak to become strong so that they too will be able to defend themselves. Weakness is not a virtue, but the defense and protection of it is. As the Creator took Chaos and made Order from it, so does manhood attempt to take weakness, wherever found, and change it to strength.

The man who conserves his strength, who will not allow false ideas to turn his natural desires into debasing channels, who clings firmly to a philosophy inculcating virility with love and poser with a sense of right is a potential force that is well-nigh invincible, and as in all things, as goes the individual so goes the nation.

It is manhood of this type that the New Renaissance requires - a strength and a potency resultant from a system of natural and rational living that will free the body from weakness and disease and will strengthen and brighten the mind. The New Renaissance furnishes a natural philosophy that has for its theme that within man is a Divine Spark, a prototype of the Father, capable of being brought into Conscious Individuality and thereby creating a potential force that is godlike and All-Powerful. It teaches a system of natural living threefold in its application, including body, mind and Soul; taking even the willing weakling and making of him a man; giving him strength, power and goodness; enabling him to resist all undesirable forces (whatever their nature) that might bind him to do what he might not wish to do or causes him to lose that which he loves.

Such men who live a rational life of honor and integrity, who give heed to the needs of the New Renaissance will gradually help to free the world of its weaknesses, crimes, vices and slavery to self or others. These undesirable traits or inheritances are the result of destructive doctrines that belittle strength and manhood and glorify beggarliness, negative goodness and the stagnation of natural desires and forces in man. As a result of debasing teachings, man as a whole today no longer has the irrefutable knowledge of what is good and pure or cares whether men live or die, so long as he has reason to believe he may reap a temporary benefit from his acts of intrigue and selfishness.

This has been the history of many nations: Whenever a nation has given up positive goodness - the belief in the necessity of strong, virile manhood; the indispensability of bringing into perfection all the posers of the physical being as well as awakening the Soul (the spiritual part of man); a belief in the desirability of developing and unfolding the constructive and creative powers of man's nature; in short, the inculcation of a virile, positive and honest philosophy of life - that nation, like its men began to decay and decline.

We can find no better examples of this lack of integrity for the sake of political advantage than in our leaders' deportment in regard to Acquired Immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS) and the smoking debate.

AIDS is one of the most virulent infectious diseases ever known, yet it is easy to control the spread of the lethal virus since its mode of transmission is well known and can be restricted by ordinary public health measures. However, because of the political power of the main group that is infected by this virus all the usual public health measures have been turned topsy-turvy in order to garner their votes.

Over the decades the public health community has developed a logical and effective method of dealing with venereal diseases, a method still used for every other venereal disease except AIDS. This method consists of testing every suspected infected individual and when a positive infection is found, ascertaining all the possible sexual contacts of this positive individual so that they can be warned of a possible infection and be brought in for testing. If any of them are found to be infected, the process begins again with the determination of their sexual contacts so that these to may be contacted. This process continues until all possible individuals who may have been infected by the first subject have been unearthed and treated. This procedure has been very successful in controlling venereal disease for many decades.

Unfortunately, for political reasons this is not the procedure used for AIDS infections. The rationale for this different approach has nothing to do with public health since AIDS (except for its present incurability) is not that different in its transmission from other venereal disease, but it does have a lot to do with the vote of the homosexual community. The sheer demonic idiocy of this political answer to a public health problem was brought to our nation's attention recently by a public health physician who said, "If someone told me that the time would come that we would treat a venereal disease by preventing doctors from disclosing those infected instead of requiring them to divulge this needed information, I would have considered that person insane, and yet that is the gist of our present management of AIDS. While this attitude may constitute political genius, it is medical insanity." Without doubt, future generations will look back at this as a time when men (those in power particularly) became the slaves of the most degenerate portions of society; a time when all logic and reason were cast aside for a vote in the ballot box; a time when honor, integrity, justice and manhood were at a new low. The nature of the evil here can be understood better if we realize that every AIDS patient allowed to run free and uncontrolled is a source of continued infection that, as it spreads and mutates, may well bring about the destruction of millions of individuals worldwide, both from direct blood or sexual contact or by other vectors from a possibly mutated virus.

While the AIDS debacle of manhood is mainly from the political left, those on the other side of the aisle have their own manhood deficiencies to defend. Here again, for obvious political advantage, they are defending and protecting a policy and industry that brings them great temporal rewards at the expense of the health of the nation.

This, of course, is the tobacco industry, whose major product, cigarettes, is the cause of more morbidity and mortality than all our nation's wars, auto accidents and natural disasters combined. While these facts are not denied, those who benefit from tobacco's campaign contributions are able to discover many innovative ways of defending this legal public mayhem. One of the most common arguments is that "it is a legal product." What they fail to make clear, however, is that it is a legal product because they, who alone have the power, refuse to make it otherwise, even though their own Food and Drug Administration has recommended such action(2).
----------------------------------------------
(2) Those who have read A Guide for the New Renaissance (Philosophical Publishing Company, P.O. Box 220, Quakertown, PA 18951) may feel this view is counter to my earlier contention that Americans should be allowed to make their own choices in such matters without government interference. The difference here is that there is little argument that the nicotine in tobacco products is not a dangerous death-dealing drug. All other such drugs of this deadly potential are correctly restricted by prescription-only status. Where there is a worthy use of nicotine it could, like other dangerous drugs, be prescribed, but it remains uncontrolled only because of political pressure created by the monied industry. This is wrong.
----------------------------------------------

Even a cursory examination of our world shows that this lack of manhood, that is, the setting aside or perversion of the Godly traits inherent in men, is not confined to the political arena but is now common in all endeavors of business and personal life. Two of the most flagrant examples are to be found in the recent activities of labor and industry.

The most powerful labor union in our nation recently called a strike of some eighty thousand workers that crippled the ability of the struck company to deliver packages to individuals and businesses. Since this company was said to handle over 80 percent of all such packages it was a most crippling strike, not only for the company it was directed against but also for the hundred thousands of businesses that every day had come to depend on the service to fulfill their obligations.

It is not wrong for a union hierarchy to attempt to promote the welfare of its members If that were the real purpose of the strike, it could be considered an act of manhood on the part of the union leaders. But that was not the key issue. The key issue was the fact that the union wanted the company to deposit large sums into a slush fund that the union officials call a pension plan. The truth is that only a pittance of the money going into this fund is ever used for the members; the majority of it is used by the union leaders for their own nefarious purposes. The struck company was willing to offer the workers a much more lucrative pension plan than the union, but the union officials mesmerized its members into thinking that only they, the union leaders, should control their pension plan. To assure that the members were not swayed by the company offer, the union officials did not make details of the company's offer available to the membership, thereby replacing any form of democratic choice with an autocratic dictatorship. In other words, the union officials so arranged matters that only they could accept or reject the company's offers. They were thereby able to sit back quietly in their comfortable seats, smoke their expensive cigars, continue to receive their high salaries (while their members went without wages) until the company was brought to its knees and capitulated on the pension plan matter. These union leaders owe a responsibility to their members. As long as they place their own selfish aggrandizement and profit before this obligation they lack any form of manhood and show the true degeneracy of our age(3).
----------------------------------------------
(3) The union leader who led the strike may soon feel the sting of the Divine Law, however, since he is now being investigated for having rigged his recent election and for misusing union funds.
----------------------------------------------

Such lack of manhood is not restricted to the labor side of the coin, however; in fact, the rape of the public by certain companies and conglomerates easily dwarfs the petty thievery of the labor moguls. This perverted and degenerate corporate manhood is perhaps most evident in the international pharmaceutical companies. Let me give just a few examples. The first is from my own personal experience.

At one time I was very active in herbal medicine. One day a representative of a large drug company came to inquire if I had any herbal formulas that they could manufacture as pharmaceuticals. I was not only flattered by the visit, but pleased to see the interest in the herbal field. I showed the man many of my best concoctions and he became very enthusiastic. He then said, "Now these are all of your own formulation, no one else knows about these herbs." I had to inform him that while the mixtures were my own invention the herbs themselves have been known for centuries. His face lost its smile and he shook his head and said, "I'm sorry, Doc, but we can't do business. We are not interested anything unless we can patent it and have an exclusive right of use." As if this were not a sufficient lack of manhood, he went on to say, ‘Doc, let me assure you, if you had a cure for cancer, but we could not patent it, we would have no interest in it!"

The true significance of this statement can be understood only when we examine the modus operandi of the development of healing agents in our nation( and the world) today. Drug companies are eager to remind us in their television commercials that over 85 percent of all healing agent research is done by them, which means that the vast amount of medical research is not done to aid the public, but to create drugs that are primarily designed to line the pockets of the drug company officers and their stockholders. As if this were not egregious enough, it is well known among pharmacists the last thing that a drug company desires to develop is a cure for anything. With a cure you only get to sell a small amount of the drug. Therefore, the ideal drug these companies work to develop is one that is very expensive, treats only the symptoms of a chronic or subacute condition and prolongs life so that he patient will be forced to pay for it over a long period of time.

Unfortunately, this is only the tip of the iceberg as far as the Machiavellian machinations of these drug lords are concerned. Since, as noted above, they are so arrogant that they do not even attempt to hide their selfish interest in this matter(except for a few syrupy television commercials), more and more individuals are realizing the health trap they have set for the public and have moved into the natural healing arena (see Chapter Fifteen, "The Doctor of the Future"). Since the selfishness of these men knows no bounds, they are active in an ongoing effort to prevent anyone except themselves from providing an agent to prevent or treat disease.

In our own nation they have lobbied (to give it the best possible face) the FDA to adopt a policy that says, "The FDA's modus operandi is on record as ensuring that the existence of dietary supplements on the market does not act as a disincentive for drug development" (FDA Dietary Supplement Task Force Report, May 1993.) What this means in manhood language is that the FDA will do its best to see that no supplement available to the general public is able to do them any good, because of one did prevent or cure a disease, then the drug companies would not have an incentive to develop an expensive drug to control only the symptoms of that disease and thereby stand to lose large sums of money. The mere fact that the noble thing, the manhood thing, for the FDA to do would be to applaud the natural cure and not attempt to suppress it has little effect on its officials when such huge sums of money are at stake.

The power of the Alternative (Eclectic) Healing Movement is now reaching worldwide momentum, and so the international force of the drug empire is looking to take over the control of all healing agents on our planet. With the United States agreement to the GATT (General agreement on Tariffs and Trade) Treaty on world trade, we have placed ourselves in a position where the international drug cartel con control every item that you might desire to use to preserve or gain health can control every item that you might desire to use to preserve or gain health. This is to be done through the Codex Alimentarius (Latin for nutritional code). This code is implemented by a little-publicized group that meets in Europe. However, under the GATT Treaty it has the power to set standards for foods and drugs (read vitamins, minerals, herbs, etc.) For the entire world and, yes, that means for us, too, now that we are a part of GATT.

At the present time a German proposal, heavily pushed by Germany's three largest drug firms, Hoechst, Bayer and BASF, is before the CODEX Commission and has already made it through the preliminaries for approval. The Berman plan calls for the following:

(1) No vitamin, mineral, herb, etc. can be sold for prophylactic (preventive) or therapeutic use.

(2) None sold as a food can exceed potency (dosage)levels set by the commission.

(3) CODEX regulations for dietary supplements would become binding - eliminating the escape clause within the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT)that allows a nation to set its own standard.

(4) All new dietary supplements would automatically be banned unless they go through the CODEX approval process.

If these draconian measures are adopted, any party to GATT (which includes the United States) that does not accept the new standards can be heavily sanctioned (fined) by the World Trade Organization (WTO). The WTO will have the right to levy enormous fines on any nation that gets "out of line," with the potential to cripple entire sectors of that nation's economy.

Surely it surprises no one that 90 percent of the delegates to this CODEX Commission represent giant international pharmaceutical corporations. Can't you just imagine how sympathetic and approving they would be to any product they felt could in any way interfere with their bottom line?

If this plan by the large German drug companies goes through, it would mean that any product in any way related to health and healing (and guess who would make that final judgment) would come under the jurisdiction of this commission. Basically the commission would have the power of life and death over all the people of the world. It would mean that they and they alone would be able to tell you what you may or may not use for health and healing. Is this just a scare? Remember, those backing this policy are the successors to I.G. Farben, the company that was disbanded for manufacturing the poison gas used in the Nazi concentration camps. The acorn does not fall far from the oak tree.

Thus, we see that the union leaders, as despicable as they are, only want to steal our money, but the legal drug lords want to take our lives and the lives of all those we hold dear. They desire to create a new and diabolical slavery - a slavery that depends on our master (the drug companies) alone for our health and healing. There is little doubt in my mind that someone, somewhere below is now working hard to find a form of Hell that is befitting such an unthinkable crime as these men propose.

Here again, manhood suffers at the altar of political expediency. If we examine history we will discover that this is not unique to our time, but is rather the norm for that period of time just before a great nation falls from a favored position (because of its disobedience to the Divine Law) to be relegated to an also-ran. We are not immune from this result. Only as the men of our nation (all of them) come to understand what manhood really is, that true manhood is their inheritance, then manifest this manhood in their daily lives and also demand it in their leaders, will we have a chance of fulfilling the prophecy of the New Renaissance.

Those who allow any perceived temporal gain to take precedent over their honor and integrity are guilty of not developing and using the Divine powers entrusted to them by an all-wise Creator for constructive use; consequently, through abuse or nonuse, these potential forces wither and die, losing the possibility of ever becoming the instruments of Conscious Individuality - the one reason man has been given an opportunity to take upon himself the house of flesh. For more insight on this matter we recommend that the student review the Scriptural Parable of the Talents.

The ancient Initiates teach us that the first and greatest command of God is: "Man, being born in the image of the Creator, should be like Him." The Creator is truly and indisputably a being of activity, of creative skill and power who never is at rest. Likewise, man should be ever active, progressive, alert and seeking for Power, Health and Happiness.

In the workplace or politics have also been able to cause a denaturing of manhood in many of our young men by the use of the public dole and "affirmative action" efforts. The inactive, effortless life created by welfare causes the physical frame to lose its vitality and strength and become disease-racked. This condition gradually brings about mental disorders and loss of accuracy in viewing daily affairs. Conditions are seen from a wrong angle and in an unnatural perspective; that which to the normal, healthy mind is holy and worthy becomes to the Morbid mentality unholy and altogether undesirable, something, indeed, to be shunned. This weakness and consequent negativeness will gradually unfit man for all in life that is worth the living. He becomes incompetent for successful business and when entering the legitimate marts of trade is dull and slow-witted, unable to act quickly and with judgment; he is soon left far behind by his more active competitors.

The result is readily foreseen: Not competent to accumulate the necessities of life, unable to live respectably, the morbid mind commences to ferment its deadly poison; is unable to determine the cause of its difficulties or place the blame and the responsibility where it rightly belongs: soon accuses others of unjust dealings and of all the sins of which the human heart can be guilty; and is incapable of understanding that the entire reason for his failure is his own mental and physical inertia or degeneracy. Thus are born countless rebels against the social order and against those who are successful because they were willing to follow the Divine Law.

When more and more inherently good men give up honor and integrity, those who had little of these qualities in the first place may well exert themselves and assume positions of power and authority that have been vacated by their betters. We see this everywhere in our world today. Manhood has so degenerated that those who still support it are publicly maligned and ridiculed. Having been burnt, they stay in the background living quiet lives and allowing the evil, incompetent, immoral and selfish to rule in almost every department of modern life. However, it is the responsibility of these men to come forward and fight for the right. To know that an evil exists and not to take measures to correct it is one of the worst forms of weakness. As has been quoted many times, "All that is necessary for evil to flourish is for good men to do nothing."

While activity is better than inactivity (after all, nothing good can happen if we do nothing; but if we try to do something, good may occasionally result) it is also important that action be according to the values of true manhood. Admittedly the sins of omission are often more damaging to society than the sins of commission, but, as noted before, the effect of the latter group is not to be underestimated.

It is granted that exploitation of the weak is far too universal throughout the world. However, the facts remain that no man need continue a weakling; that all men can gain a reasonable degree of physical strength and mental alertness, therewith enabling them to cope with all conditions of life as well as with other individuals and thus freeing themselves from those who would despoil them. All have the opportunity to gain strength, self-reliance and knowledge, thereby obtaining their freedom from slavish and similar conditions created by weakness.

The man who is clean and pure physically, mentally and spiritually will have the advantage every time over the one who is weak and diseased. The strong and healthy, the mentally alert, can be slave to no one, not even of the corrupt politician or the miserish employer. Just as the beast in the jungle knows when it meets its master, so do the most degraded. Although seemingly possessed of the unlimited power, this type of man will recognize the superiority of one of one who manifests true manhood and strength. In proportion as men recognize these facts and live in harmony with them, those who now take advantage of the weak will be forced to relinquish their hold upon them, because they will come to know that the truly honorable men of the Earth will not permit it.

One of the greatest humiliations a nation can experience is when the men thereof have sunk so low, through craft, abnormal desires and unnatural living, that the few are allowed to deal unjustly, in whatever way they may with, with the nation's women and children. This was certainly true in our nation in past decades. Both women and children were exploited to line the pockets of the wealthy. Certainly there are few greater degradations than that innocent children and weak women should be exploited, injured, worked to death, starved and given no opportunity whatever for development of their mental and physical being and the enjoyment of a few pleasures of life! While this exploitation is now much less than it was during our nation's earlier days, the types of men, those without manhood, who originally preyed upon our women and children have not given up this lucrative semislavery, but have just transferred it to Third World countries.

While the exploitation of women and children is now much less than it was, the needed correction was not brought about so much by the men of our nation becoming more honorable, but by the efforts of the women themselves forcing such changes. Nature abhors a vacuum, and when the men of a nation will not make the necessary corrections, someone else will eventually take action. The women of our nation waited until they could wait no longer for manifested manhood and did for themselves and their children that which the men were loath to do. This, the changes in our society over this century are not so much the result of improved manhood, but instead of an ever weakening manhood - a manhood that has come to look to the women to do what men were created and destined to do.

Men have allowed women and unfit men to rule the thoughts and soul of the nation. This is not said in an attempt to belittle women. They had no other alternative but to awaken men to the need for an emergence of the true manhood of honor, integrity and reverence to God and His Divine Law. We have but to listen to the babble of our present politicians to realize just how far we have sunk into the pit of moral decay. They no longer even attempt to lie about their indiscretions; they only say, "It must be all right because everyone is doing it."

As mentioned previously, some political leaders defend their support of and contributions from the tobacco lobby by saying, "After all, it is a legal product." The fact that this "legal product" kills and maims thousands every day does not seem to be important to their sense of political morality. Nor does the fact that it is a "legal product" only because they refuse to take legislative action to change its status. Such hypocrisy is the badge of our time, although there is nothing new about it. Did not the Nazarene speak of those who would strain at a gnat while swallowing a camel?

The example above is only one of thousands that can be given. While the American people are not fooled by this hypocrisy, they are discouraged by it. So much so in fact that they stay away from the voting polls in droves because they feel, rightfully so, that it matters little which candidate they elect since all are sorry examples of what we have a right to expect real manhood to manifest.

Our only hope of alleviating this situation is to develop manhood in the men of our nation. This cannot be done en masse but must be accomplished one man at a time. This is one of the purposes of this work. There is little a man cannot do once he is convinced of his true potential. As Maurice Maeterlinck asked, "What is man but a god afraid?" It is time that the good men of our nation put fear aside and come to realize the God-given power they have if they are only willing to learn to live by the Divine Law.

Truly the world is sadly in need of men who are free from weakness, slavery to conditions, business, or the opinions of others, and who have the strength and the manhood to speak, preach, and fight for the right and the welfare of our nation as well as for the weak and innocent - not because weakness is good, but only because they desire to help the weak to become strong. All too often those who picture themselves as champions of the weak want to keep them so because only in this way can they retain their own power. This is only another form of degenerate manhood, a hypocritical philanthropy.

Men are personally held accountable by the Divine Law for their weaknesses because they have the opportunity to develop their powers, to strengthen their weak points. To live a natural life, thereby to become strong, virile and free. Where women and children are dependent on men for their protection and manhood is lacking, they can find no chivalry. Where individuality is underdeveloped, there is no conscience to call a halt; and the few in power without moral sense of right and justice will drive the innocent and unprotected to the farthest limit of work and torture. No wonder few have found the Path to Health and Happiness.

The weaker a man becomes, the readier he will be to decry all that is manly. The greater a slave he is to his own weakness, the more certain e is to blame others for his condition. The laborer who fails to earn a respectable livelihood for his family and refuses to seek or accept better conditions because they would lift him out of an environment he has become used to is ever ready to condemn those who give him employment. The man who is willing to make every effort to develop his physical being, who is eager to study and enlighten his mentality, who is willing to live a sane, normal and natural life, thus freeing himself from undesirable conditions, need not remain the slave of any other, no matter how powerful, but has the opportunity to become a freeman in the truest sense of the word.

Let man seek his God. This is the eternal quest of life. Yet let it be remembered that the search for God and the spiritual life is not the whole, but only a part, of a true existence. The counterpart is his duty to humanity in general and to himself in his threefold nature: body, mind, and Soul. Let him free himself, first of all, from physical weakness and defects for just as long as there are physical abnormalities, there will be mental and emotional deficiencies. The way to mental power and strength is through physical perfection, and also, thereby may the Soul reach its highest estate.

The Path to Freedom and to Power is by way of the natural, normal life. Give up all that is unnatural, abnormal and weakening; commence the constructive life; exercise the physical being; cultivate the mind and all its mental powers. Even though you have but a few minutes each day to devote to self-improvement , use them wisely, and conditions will materially improve. Soon you will be able to think clearly and act constructively. You will learn to progress under unfavorable circumstances and to gain the strength and the manliness to prevent unjust dealings, thereby obtaining your rightly earned possessions. By this process, you will be able to regain your manhood. Always remember, manhood is the essential Path to Godhood.

The bush on which the rose is to bloom must be of good stock, otherwise the rose cannot be perfect. Moreover, unless the sun shines upon the trees and the buds, the bloom will not be at its highest beauty. The shadows produce not beautiful flowers, but poisonous fungi. The human being, with his possibility of an Illuminated soul, may be likened to the rose bush: He too must be exposed to the sun and rain and not remain in the shadows if he expects to develop full responsible manhood, and with it Health and Happiness.
