The inscription on the flyleaf of my copy of Mulford's THE GIFT OF THE SPIRIT reads: To Nick, to cure him of his fear of failure.

I cold find no better dedication except to include all fears. I would like to add: "And to him who learns this hidden wisdom, well, there can be perfect days forever.

When I first considered publishing this book many years ago, I felt that there would need to be many footnotes and other explanations.

With the inception of the many facilities of the HUMANITARIAN SOCIETY, I feel the NEED for a publication of this kind. No footnotes or explanations are needed in the text since it will be used as part of the curriculum of the Humanitarian Society and classes and seminars will use it for discussion.

We have chosen THE DOCTOR WITHIN for our first discourse because we feel herein lies the answers to the most prevalent problems of today's living.

Much of that which Mulford wrote was taken from the works of Randolph and other Initiates. These same works have always been part of the teachings of the Great Work of which Mulford was a member of the Council of Seven in England. We are making them available to the general public because we believe the need is great and the time opportune.

With no apologies and great anticipation, we offer this first discourse of THE GIFTS OF THE SPIRIT.
