REASON FOR BEING

INTRODUCTION

"We ask not that the way be easy, but rather that we live so as to enjoy the difficult." ___C. VI

When we seek the reason for our being, we will do well to try to find the answer WITHIN ourselves. In the ultimate, ONLY we can know what we desire and only we can prove to ourselves that one great desire has been the motivating force for our existence.

The fact that the answer must be found within our selves does not mean that we cannot find guidance and encouragement in the experiences and writings of others. "Experience IS the greatest teacher," but it is by no means the ONLY way to learn. One need not walk on an icy read to know that it is icy. A little observation of others can tell one much. With this in mind, we have gathered the thoughts, teachings and writings of great minds that it has been our privilege to know, personally or through their writings.

REASON FOR BEING

BY OVERCOMING WEAKNESSES MAN GAINS SELF-MASTERY

Mans Concept of God

We assume that the reader believes in a Supreme Being, One God, Superior Power, call it what you will. We find it more understandable if we look upon this Infinite Intelligence as Divine Law. When we are told that God will punish the wrongdoer, we may be inclined to wonder why a Superior Being would be concerned about one insignificant creature doing some insignificant wrong; or conversely, why He should concern Himself with prayers or supplication. However, how Divine Law established the "sowing" and the "reaping" is easily explained. If we plant vegetables and take proper care of them, we harvest vegetables; if we plant weeds, the same law applies, and if we sin, we reap the consequences of that sin. God does not bestow those consequences, they are the natural result of the action. Every speck of existence is governed by Divine Law,(1) just as our daily lives are ruled by statutory law. (The police officer does not punish us for breaking the legal code; he merely carries out the legal requirements for compensation for such infractions of the law.)
-----------------------------------------------------
(1) "Divine Laws are Spiritual in their nature and incentive. They deal with man's Spiritual being, the Divine principle WITHIN, the Divine Spark derived from the Creator." ... THE GREAT WORK: ITS NEOPHYTES. this publisher.
-----------------------------------------------------

In understanding God as The Law, or The Word, the concept of a personal God should be considered. We can no more describe a "personal" God than we can label the beauties of life. What we may find beautiful may be ugly to another. Our awareness of beauty may not be as great as another's. WE CAN, however, tell you how you may come to KNOW God.

God is within and known to each individual to the extent that the individual is AWARE of him. To the individual who looks upon God as One who answers prayers and performs miracles, the God who demands an "eye for eye" may be unreal. However, as one's AWARENESS of God increases, he comes to KNOW that God is indeed a performer of miracles, an answerer of prayers, as well as a God who demands an "eye for an eye", i.e., a fair exchange, cause and effect, action and reaction, COMPENSATION.

We may not be able to see God, but we may be aware of the manifestation of His works. He IS visible in the lovelight in the eyes of the father, the mother, the lovers. In the loving affection and devotion and sacrifices of loving and loved. In a growing Consciousness of His existence in All THAT IS, was, and can ever be. We can come to know Him as the Source of all, and know that nothing is denied us by Him ("Ask and ye shall receive") as long as we have earned or are willing to pay for that for which we ask. An awareness(2) of God is a KNOWLEDGE of God. This is the CONSCIOUSNESS of God. When we have come to fully know Him, we must be more like Him and can then fulfill the statement: "Ye are sons of the living God."
-----------------------------------------------------
(2) Each time one is more aware of GOD it is a "GROWING IN CONSCIOUSNESS." -----------------------------------------------------

THE LAW OF EXCHANGE

Throughout the ages there has been a conflict of opinion as to the exact meaning of such words and phrases as: "Karma"(3) a much-abhorred, because much misunderstood word) ... "As ue sow, so shall ye reap"...the scientific law of "Action and REaction" ... the Biblical "Punishment and Reward" ...
the separation of "wheat" and "chaff" ...the dictum, "By the sweat of thy brow shalt thou earn thy bread" ...the story of the fig tree that would bear no fruit and so on.
-----------------------------------------------------
(3) The cosmic principle of causality on which the moral consequences of each one's every thought, word and act, throughout eternity, is rewarded or punished, in one incarnation according to his actions in a previous incarnation. The principle of causality; the consequence of one's acts relating to one's immediate or long term future; the continued effect of every act or deed or thought as a moral consequence - the Sowing and Reaping.
-----------------------------------------------------

These are but varied references to the one inevitable and unchanging law that TO LIVE, WE MUST PRODUCE and that to fail to produce is to be destroyed (burned up). This law is variously expressed in the Biblical phrase, "As a man soweth so shall he reap"; in the scientific dictum, "Action brings a REACTION of like nature," and in the businessman's conception of COMPENSATION or EXCHANGE.

God does NOT punish! God does NOT reward! God instituted an all-inclusive law - the LAW OF EXCHANGE! As a man sows SO MUST he reap. He is reimbursed for every thought, desire and deed.

The reimbursement for evil thoughts, desires and deeds is the Biblical "chaff," which should, and must be burned up - destroyed. The COMPENSATION for good thoughts, desires and deeds is "wheat" which is LIFE; not only temporal, but eternal. COMPENSATION is a word of definite and unmistakable meaning. No HONEST man seeks to be compensated for services unperformed, nor is he willing to COMPENSATE any one for labor yet to be done.

MEN ARE GARDENERS, whether they will or no. Some are good gardeners. Some are not so good. Many are failures because of lack of desire and application or a general misconception of their part in the game of life. Man has free Will, but only to the extent that he chooses either good (constructive) or evil (destructive) work. All other "choices" result from the outworking of the LAW OF EXCHANGE, which, with its reciprocal action and REaction, opens the way for increasing happiness and success or yields the deserved measure of sorrow and suffering.

The wise gardener gathers up the weeds in his garden and plows them under to serve as FOOD for his flowers and vegetables. If his choice of location was wisely made, he will not seek to find a better one, knowing that the garden of weeds can be reclaimed and made to blossom by the transmutation of the weeds. Assuredly, if the soil will grow weeds, it will as readily produce`flowers and vegetables. It is the preparation and the sowing - the working out of the LAW OF EXCHANGE or COMPENSATION, as the result of PROPER CHOICE and ACTION - that makes the difference.

To repeat and re-emphasize: Whatever man's efforts may be, his reward or "reaping" will rightly and justly be according to his sowing. The reaping, whatever its nature, is his COMPENSATION his JUST or MERITED REWARD. He who fails or refuses to make effort, who offers nothing of worth, cannot honestly receive a benefit; nor would an honest man have it otherwise. The Law of Compensation is - must be - ABSOLUTE, or there is NO Law. Without law, there could be no God and man would be without a Spiritual self - bereft of Soul.

Give, and you shall receive accordingly in full measure and running over. Labor, and you shall be compensated. Procure, in one way or another, that which you have not earned and he whom you have thereby defrauded, shall be compensated, while you will be made to pay "to the uttermost farthing" with heavy interest.

Many there are who, when compelled to face up to obligations created in this manner, complain bitterly of their lamentable plight and blame everyone but themselves for their dire misfortune.

THE LAW OF PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY

Possibly the greatest single cause of Mankind's problems today is the lack of PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY. Once the individual is fully aware of the REWARDS as well as of the PENALTIES of responsibility for his or her own future and environment, his outlook and actions will have meaning and purpose.

If the young were taught and, if necessary, FORCED TO ACCEPT the fact of THEIR OWN RESPONSIBILITY, they would have (many for the first time) a purpose in life. The youth who has never known the necessity of having to labor for reward, or had to pay the penalty for wrongdoing, cannot know the true purpose of his existence. The college "student" who has been sent to school without the desire to acquire a college education, or who lacks the ambition to WORK to achieve that education, is a prime candidate for disobedience and disruptive behavior in that college. The youth who has robbed, raped and committed other greater or lesser crimes and been released WITHOUT MAKING SOME FORM OF RESTITUTION to society is a prime candidate for continued and greater crimes against humanity. The parent, politician or official who PERMITS(4) the perpetrator of a crime to go unpunished is neglecting his OWN personal responsibility.
-----------------------------------------------------
(4)Absolutely NO ONE has the right to run rampant, destroying life and property. Consequently those allowing this permissiveness for fear of becoming "involved" or other reasons. are just as guilty as the doers under THE LAW. -----------------------------------------------------

Even if no other reasoning is used, COMMON SENSE should show that if an effort, act or deed receives response in kind, then these same efforts, acts and deeds should and must be given more consideration. If youth were taught and disciplined to KNOW, that if they wanted to go to college, some effort ON THEIR PART would be required; that if they wanted favors and privileges, these favors and privileges need be earned; that if they committed wrongs, these wrongs must be corrected by THEMSELVES, meaning and purpose would be given their every act, their very lives.

If we examine ourselves and question, "When I am aware of a wrong, whether it be too high taxes or a personal fault, do I examine it from a standpoint of my own PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY, or do I try to look for a reason to blame someone else and excuse myself from further action, thus allowing wrong to continue?"

This is exactly what the troublesome minority among youth of today is doing. Instead of making an effort to correct their own lack of accomplishment, they rebel against everything involved, in an attempt to receive the harvest without the planting and culture of the seed.

Man becomes master of himself when he seeks and applies knowledge he has gained through experience, when he searches out his own weaknesses and replaces them with strong traits of character. Accepting responsibilities, he thus enjoys the blessings that come with the acceptance and fulfillment of those responsibilities.

If only one fact could be given the young, it might well be: Only by individual works and worth can real change be brought about.

MAN CHOOSES HIS OWN COURSE

We assume that, along with recognition of a Supreme Being, the reader also acknowledges the existence of a Soul. The Soul may be better understood if we regard it as our personality.(5) So long as this personality has even the most fractional degree of goodness, it is the biding place of some measure of the Divine Law, in that it knows some degree of right and wrong - good and evil. To know good is to have a knowledge of God. To the extent that we DO good (obey Divine Law), we are "like unto God."
-----------------------------------------------------
(5) The use of this terminology brings more meaning to those not familiar with "Divine Spark" or "Soul Spark." "The Personality, that with which we left our mother's womb, which we were yesterday and are today, is the vehicle for the Soul to manifest through," ...THE SCIENCE OF THE SOUL, this publisher. -----------------------------------------------------

Were we to be so situated that we were conscious of no evil, in such a position that we could do no evil, we would be considered "good," but the goodness would be unconscious, IMPOSED upon us by reason of environment and without a freedom of choice because free choice (effort) for good was not required of us. We would neither sow nor reap but would be as a farmer who, planting neither vegetables nor weeds, loses his identity as a farmer. Thus the individual, doing neither good nor evil, would lose his personality, and with the loss of personality would be the loss of the residence of the Divine Spark - which would then return to its Source.

The personality,(6) therefore, needs to "know good and evil" so that, since it is given free choice, it may choose its own course and hence its own punishment and/or reward. Note that we say "choose its own." God. or the Divine Law, does not mete out the punishment or the reward. We CHOOSE, by our acts, for ourselves, and to the extent that we are AWARE of good and evil, we determine the extent of the return.
-----------------------------------------------------
(6) The personality is dominant in the human being up until the point where SPIRITUAL CONSCIOUSNESS has reached a level where the personality has merged with the Soul and BECOME an ILLUMINATED SOUL.
-----------------------------------------------------

Thus, if we injure someone unintentionally, we must make some restitution for the injury - but if we injure someone INTENTIONALLY, we must not only make restitution for the injury but must also be responsible for the INTENT. This is recognized in statutory law as well as in Divine Law. The responsibilities of an unconscious Soul are not as great as those of the Conscious Soul - NOR ARE THE REWARDS.

TO PERMIT EVIL IS TO COMMIT EVIL

AWARENESS of good and evil, right and wrong, carries with it a burden, in that "He that permitteth evil, committeth evil." The working of this law may be readily observed today.

For example, those with children who are afraid or unwilling to punish them for fear of their reaction or of losing their love not only lose their love but also their respect. The official who is so concerned with the opinions of the minorities that he neglects his own sworn duty in a vain attempt to appease and please, when common sense tells him, as it must, that appeasement can only result in greater and even greater demands, brings upon himself a lessening of his own effectiveness. The businessman or executive who is unwilling or afraid to uphold the ideals and principles that have made America what it is (in achievements) today is no longer in charge of that for which he has worked and sacrificed. Instead, he is swayed by the opinions of associates and powerful unions. Material values often overshadow principles.

What of the professional man who is afraid or unwilling to do what he knows is right because it might be contrary to what the pressure groups and organizations demand of him?

If a very small minority can enslave the great majority, WHO is wrong? Is it the minority and the untaught, unkempt and often ignorant who are wrong, or THOSE WHO KNOW BETTER AND ARE AFRAID TO ACT?

The Measure of a Man

All things that exist, both in heaven and on earth, were created by God. Since nothing can continue to exist except WITHIN the Law, UNDER the Law, and in harmony WITH the Law, THIS NECESSARILY INCLUDES BOTH HEAVENLY BEINGS AND MAN.
ALL things, with the single exception of man, DO LIVE IN HARMONY WITH THE LAW; hence though they CHANGE, they are NOT DESTROYED. Man (physically) having been created in the image of the Creator and for the purpose of becoming a co-creator with God, was given free Will.

This free Will implies the privilege and capacity to disfranchise himself by thinking, desiring and acting contrary to the Law. He thus becomes - unless he is "converted," i.e., changed from an outlaw to a law-abiding being - the Biblical "chaff," to be destroyed.

Accepting REVELATION as fact, the terms "Angel" and "Man" are more or less synonymous; the word "Angel" being changeable to the word "Man." This gives the "key" whereby we may unlock the mystery of the Soul.

Again accepting the Biblical statement as authority, and recognizing that the outer or "lower" world was in need of beings or creatures, just as the upper world or "Heaven" was populated with Angles, Archangels, Hierarchies and other Spiritual beings, God planned the creation of physical beings, capable of existing in a physical or material world. These beings would be like other creatures - at first without reason or "Souls, but under the Law and in harmony with the Law.

There were those in the heavenly or Spiritual sphere who, having had no other than Spiritual existence, had never experienced either love or hate. They had no knowledge of good or evil. These beings, "Angels," - "THE MEASURE OR A MAN," or COUNTERPART FOR MAN - became dissatisfied with their negative(7) state, their mere existence. Within them was born the desire to EXPERIENCE and gain knowledge only to be had by running the full gamut of passions and emotions belonging to the status of a human being.
-----------------------------------------------------
(7) Not in the sense generally alluded to but descriptive of their lack of DESIRE.
-----------------------------------------------------

The physical creatures God had created were in need of Souls that they might be different from all other animal creatures, as were their bodies. The "Angels" (Souls) had a desire to descend that they might gain experience and the knowledge of good and evil.

The Creator, therefore, gave these desiring "Angels" or Souls the privilege to descend to earth and inhabit physical bodies with the proviso that THEY WOULD ACCEPT THE INEXORABLE LAW UNDER WHICH THEY WOULD BE COMPLETELY RESPONSIBLE FOR ALL THE EVILS COMMITTED WHILE IN THE BODY (PERSON) FURTHERMORE, THEY WOULD NOT BE PERMITTED TO RETURN TO THEIR FIRST ESTATE (BIBLICALLY KNOWN AS "HEAVEN") UNTIL ALL OF THE EVILS COMMITTED WHILE IN THE BODY HAD BEEN COMPLETELY TRANSMUTED INTO GOOD AND ALL INDEBTEDNESS PAID AND FULL COMPENSATION MADE.

AFTER ALL EVILS WERE FINALLY TRANSMUTED OR OVERCOME, AND THE KNOWLEDGE OF GOOD AND EVIL OBTAINED, THE MORTAL CHANGED INTO THE IMMORTAL, THE SON OF MAN HAVING BECOME THE SON OF GOD, THE SOUL WOULD THEN HAVE THE CHOICE OF RETURNING TO ITS FORMER SPHERE AS A HIERARCH IN THE HEAVENLY ECONOMY OR RETURNING TO EARTH TO HELP OTHER MEN UNDERSTAND THE LAW AND FOLLOW IT TO THE BETTERMENT OF THEMSELVES AND THEIR FELLOWMEN.

In the beginning of time, no one can know for how many centuries, the creature that was becoming MAN lived within the Law as do other creatures who are Soul-less, and he was at peace, as are all other creatures. This was the age of the Garden of Eden. Gradually, as Man gained greater reasoning powers, he devised ways and means whereby he sought to evade or set aside the Law. At his first infraction of the Divine Edict, illustrated by the legend of the "apple" with which Eve tempted Adam, he was cast out of the garden (his earthly heaven) and the Law, "By the sweat of thy brow shalt thou earn thy bread," was pronounced upon him. When he refused to learn the first fundamental lesson through his first infraction and resulting experience, Man became an outlaw. As time went on, he committed more and more offenses, reaping ever greater penalties, until he became as he is today ... by comparison, the most cruel and vicious of all creatures - a scourge upon the face of the earth, PUNISHING BOTH HIMSELF AND HIS FELLOWMEN.

Primarily, each and every "Angel," as a Soul, descended to Earth for the express purpose to first become human by becoming the Son of Man. The next effort was to gain experience; through experience to learn good from evil; then eliminate the evil, NOT BY ANOTHER'S INTERVENTION OR SUBSTITUTION, but by overcoming all evil within himself through the feelings of LOVE, MERCY, KINDNESS, GRACIOUSNESS, ADORATION, REVERENCE and HELPFULNESS.

This, in turn, would lead to transmutation, change(8) or conversion of all evils; the mortal self becoming Immortalized; the Son of Man becoming a Son of God in accordance with God's Word or Law.
-----------------------------------------------------
(8) Man cannot advance one iota on the PATH unless he is WILLING TO CHANCE the undesirable to the DESIRABLE.
-----------------------------------------------------

Gradually, through suffering, sorrow, pain, anguish, failure and other untoward conditions experienced as a result of sensual pleasures and evils committed against fellow beings, the Incarnate Soul painfully awakened to the instability of the temporal and the certainty of something greater and more enduring. Thus awakened, he resolutely entered the pathway to inner unfoldment and, through conscious development, gained the victory over all that is temporal, evil and degrading.

At last, all so awakened and become Conscious return to their original source - not as mere Angles, but, through transmutation, transformation and REgeneration - born AGAIN of the spirit, as formerly into the flesh - the SONS OF GOD.

All of the evils rampant in the world today are traceable to two main factors: First, disobedience to the Law and refusal to follow the clearly outlined path for the Soul's redemption. Second, the erroneous, utterly false and misleading idea that by mere repudiation of evils, instead of "full repayment to the last farthing," man can be redeemed and washed free from his evils, irrespective of how many Souls he may have sent to perdition by his acts.

The Law IS. It cannot be evaded by any means whatsoever. It is positive in its Action and REaction. No HONEST Soul is willing that another should take upon himself the responsibility for its evils and pay its indebtedness.

There being so few Souls who are honest, willing and ANXIOUS to pay their indebtedness in full, is it any wonder that the world is cursed with its many evils and that Mankind suffers and groans under a heavy load, while daily the RED HORSEMAN of REVELATION rides faster and wider, as more and more "chaff" is added to the pile to be destroyed, while the "wheat" to be garnered is slowly increased!

For the salvation of the Race, Man MUST AWAKEN to his sins and accept his responsibilities. He must mobilize his forces and go forth to battle, at last defeating his own enemies WITHIN himself that he may avoid being drawn into the vortex of destruction. He, and he alone, can "save" himself by obedience to the Law so plainly given. The means and the method is that of being BORN again - through REbirth of his Spirit (Soul) into Godly Consciousness, culminating in Soul Illumination.

Oddly enough, the most universal of all misunderstandings is the idea that, in order to succeed in things Spiritual, Man must give up all that is pleasurable and enjoyable in life. Only that which belongs to "chaff" and which is to the detriment of Man physically, morally, economically and spiritually must be eliminated(9) or destroyed. The good and pleasant things of life, so long as they are wholesome and constructive are to be encouraged.
-----------------------------------------------------
(9) Many seekers upon taking up the GREAT WORK will begin "house cleaning" by generally directing their efforts to the physical. Of greater importance however is the cleansing of the INNER man freeing him of hate, jealousy, resentment and all other carnal elements which enslave him.
-----------------------------------------------------

MAN MUST KNOW HIMSELF

Before we can begin to understand the All-Soul, Superior Intelligence or, if you prefer, God, we must first know ourselves and our material and Spiritual worlds.

Randolph, in his book, AFTER DEATH: THE IMMORTALITY OF MAN, describes the various levels of existence in the Spiritual World. Arcanely, he was in truth describing the degrees of advancement the Neophyte must pass through in the earthly existence. One of the advanced students of the Great Work wrote:

"Between the successive embodiments of the soul there are spirit states which are states of fruition, where the experiences of the preceding life in the body are assimilated, and the lessons of that life are made a part of the soul's knowledge. Communication between those in the spirit world is possible but such communication through so-called mediumship is not to be recommended and may be harmful, degrading and destructive. There is a better way, by bringing one's self into direct contact with the spirit world through right living and moral spiritual development."

Just as a parent, having several children, may desire to have these children embark upon many careers - many experiences, so does the All-Soul desire to have His Children (new Souls) embark upon ever-expanding mortal lives. This is in keeping with Divine Law so long as they do the Father's Will. Just as the child may, in its turn, become a Father or Mother, so may the Soul become "as a God" or a "God among men, " an immortal. "And the sons of men have become the Sons of God."

A word of explanation may be in order. Man can discuss God only in terms of human understanding. For this reason, as explained above, the term "The Law" or "The Word" is preferable in discussion of qualities. The Law is asexual (without sex) but, in giving Man free Will, the choice of assuming a masculine or feminine personality is left to the individual.

To illustrate: A new Soul - the Divine Spark descending to Earth to inhabit a human body for the first time - would be drawn to a masculine or feminine body because of some influence while this new Soul was in its "Heavenly Abode." This would also be true of the choice of environment the new Soul might select. Since the new Soul would be without Karma, it would be able to select whatever environment (country or birth, parents, sex and so on) it desired, subject only to the availability of suitable conditions.

NEW SOULS

New Souls, while basically Divine Sparks, do have awareness of earthly things, and hence desire for such; this may be best explained by Biblical "Angles."

Angels are new Souls in that they have known no physical or earthly existence. They are AWARE of the earthly, material world and, should they desire to descend to that world, may do so. In so doing, they are subject to "the Fall," i.e., falling into evil ways and having to atone for any evil they commit or, failing to do so, become "chaff," losing their Divine Spark, their Soul.

One might ask whether new souls would not desire only the very best of all that is good. Everything created by God is good. It is only Man, having free choice, by misusing that good, who creates "evil." Because it is not possible to know what is in a person's mind. Man is judged by appearances and deeds. "By their deeds shall they be known." Thus a new Soul may be attracted to an undesirable environment.

To illustrate: A young couple may decide to buy a house and KNOW exactly what they have in mind. They may be attracted to a house APPEARING to be exactly what they want, and purchase it. Only after living in it may they find it has inherent faults and undesirable neighbors. Fortunately, both the new Soul and the young couple may, BY FULFILLING WHATEVER OBLIGATION WAS FIRST ASSUMED, make another choice.

Again, it would seem that the new Soul (being Angelic) would be attracted ONLY to what is good. Not necessarily so. It is possible that this new Soul's greatest desire(10) is to experience earthly existence, and this would be the dominating influence. Conditions would be secondary.
-----------------------------------------------------
(10) DESIRE is the MAGNET of the Soul, the strongest DESIRE predominating in all things.
-----------------------------------------------------

To illustrate: An individual may travel to a foreign country. It may be for a definite purpose and, to a great extent, that purpose can be assured of completion. Another individual may only wish to visit that country and accept whatever may be in store. Each may need several visits to accomplish what they set out to do, and if they fulfill the conditions, can do so. It is possible that they may wish to change their original objective, or possibly, decide they wish to stay there to live. Again, it is only necessary to fulfill the conditions. This same is true of new Souls descending to Earth.

Souls may be likened to children of God, to be given freedom of choice, after inhabiting a human body, to do good or to do evil. To TRY. If the Soul does evil and understands that it has done evil, and then makes restitution, it will be the stronger. If it does evil and does not know that it has committed evil, it will be FORCED to make some form of restitution. If this Soul does evil and knows it has done so, but refuses to make restitution, it becomes evil.

Should the Soul-personality become completely evil,(11) it would lose its link with God and the personality would be no more. The Soul-Spark, being of God, could not become evil and would return to its source; just as a child, who disobeys its parents' wishes to the extent that it is disowned, loses its identity with its family.
-----------------------------------------------
(11) A PERSONALITY may be completely evil and thus destroy itself. However once the personality through SPIRITUAL CONSCIOUSNESS has merged with the SOUL, degradation or destruction would have to be brought about by deliberate efforts of the PERSONALITY through evil thoughts, desires and acts.
-----------------------------------------------

CONSTANT EFFORT IS REQUIRED

Man is dual in nature, SPIRITUAL and physical, with tendencies for good and evil. The physical, is necessary so as to provide a dwelling in which to develop the spiritual - the "house" built without nails or sound of hammer, the Temple of the Immortal Soul. Part of the Great Work is to so perfect this "house" that it becomes a fit dwelling place for the Soul.

We are partly evil (carnal passions and base emotions) as a result of previous acts or thoughts, a result of our physical demands. Therefore, another phase of the Great Work is the transmuting and refining of these passions and emotions into Love, Faith and Understanding.

Until we have accomplished these Works, we will continue to do things we KNOW are wrong, acts that we KNOW are harmful, and put off doing what we KNOW we should do.

So long as we make the effort and have the desire to improve our material and SPIRITUAL life, we WILL reduce the power of the carnal and evil within us and strengthen the finer emotions and the SPIRITUAL. We do NOT advance automatically any more than our "wheelbarrow" goes up the hill automatically. To stop means to roll back; to reach the top takes effort. We must decide if the goal is worth the effort.

As an illustration: A man may be comfortably relaxing in his house and be told there is a small hole in the roof. But, it is a pleasant, sunny day and all is well, and, being content, he neglects to repair the hole. The next day rain falls, and he sees the damage the rain does as it comes through the hole in the roof, but he can do nothing without getting wet, possibly sick, and only then with great effort, discomfort and danger.

All who entered the Great Work are obviously dissatisfied with their "house" or at least desire a better "house." Nearly every student reports great improvement shortly after entering the Work. This usually continues until he has a satisfactory "house." Then, complacency often begins, and, he sits in his "living room," aware of many defects still to be repaired, but since the "sun is shining," he does nothing to remedy the situation. This condition may continue until the new "house" is in no better condition than was the old, and, in many instances, immediate "repairs" are needed at a time when "repairing" is most difficult.

The motto of the Royal Canadian Air Force, "Per Ardva a Astra" ("through adversity to the stars"), is true Occult Philosophy in that Man grows stronger through overcoming adversity. He CAN reach the "stars" regardless of adversity. A far better way, however, is to repair our "roof" while the sun is shining and avoid many of the adversities that befall the procrastinator. We can make excuses and put off doing what is necessary, but sooner or later, should we decide we really want to complete our "house," we must go ahead regardless of conditions.

Each of us has a purpose or, if you prefer, a goal. It is to our advantage to attain this foal or achieve our purpose as quickly as possible, in order to reap the harvest. In other words: We should finish our "house" as soon as we can in order to enjoy living in it.

REASON FOR BEING

CONSTANT CHANGE IS THE RULE OF MAN'S LIFE

THE LAWS OF CONSTANT CHANGE

The Intelligence that we call God or the Divine Law has need of expanding and "experiencing," just as the parent would have no purpose in life unless he, or she, continually "expanded."

When a child is born, the mother is to all intent God - for she is the source of food, warmth and protection. Thus to the child, she is life. As such, the mother can do no wrong.

As the child grows older, he becomes aware of the MAN, and with this knowledge comes the awareness that the father is the real source of protection, because he provides for the mother and, when help is needed, the mother calls upon him to provide it. Thus the father becomes God, and can do no wrong, During this period, the child is secure, content and free of doubts.

As the child continues to grow,(1) he becomes aware that this God is not perfect, for the mother may contradict him, even berate him, and doubts begin. One or the other may punish the child for doing things considered wrong; the OTHER may say this was unjust and REWARD him because of the "wrong" done to him. Doubts turn to confusion. The pattern continues until adolescence. -----------------------------------------------------
(1) THE LAW is forever active and in continual operation. Just as the physical has need of GROWTH to fulfill its needs, so does the SPIRITUAL WITHIN. Thus through GROWTH does all manner of life EXPAND, EXPERIENCE and BECOME.
-----------------------------------------------------

Adolescence, in past years, was a time when understanding made itself known. The youth realized that though his parents were not perfect, they did continue to improve their station in life. When they erred, they corrected the error; when they worked hard, they reaped the reward of their labors.

The youth understood that as soon as schooling was completed, he would go to work and that the type of position he obtained was dependent on his ABILITY and WILLINGNESS TO WORK, with commensurate reward. Work had MEANING and was desirable. If a college education was the goal, it had to be earned both financially and as a result of academic effort. College had MEANING and was a respected goal. Marriage (and the sanctity of marriage) was considered the goal of every youth and required the young person to make the most of all talents in order to win the cherished mate. Marriage was a natural and ultimate goal in life.

Those among today's youth, who reject such goals(2) and values, find the world a confusing place with conditions seemingly beyond changing by the means generally employed, and are left vastly dissatisfied, discontent and without aim or purpose. These conditions will continue until the youth learns by experience the falseness of his negative approach and makes individual correction by assuming personal responsibility, and this same personal responsibility is required by parents, legislatures, the news and entertainment media and all those with authority within and outside the home.
-----------------------------------------------------
(2) Due to lack of DESIRE to advance and accept the responsibility for one's acts, a "giving in" to the base desires, inertia and downright laziness. -----------------------------------------------------

THE CONSCIOUS RECOGNITION OF THE POWERS INHERENTLY POSSESSED BY THE INDIVIDUAL is the only safeguard of personal liberty. It is the guarantee of his freedom. It exempts him not only from the tyranny of others but also from destructive vices, disease and bondage to negative thoughts and depressive moods. The only REAL security is in the ability of the individual.

Again, an all-wise parent, with unlimited funds at hand, might plan a perfect estate in which to establish a dynasty for his family (as many monarchs have done). Ideally, the children of this all-wise parent would follow in his footsteps, expanding the dynasty, rearing children of their own who in turn would bring up children. All the children would be taught the traditions of the family and would be expected to follow the traditions they had learned, but, since they would have free Will, they would be free to try different procedures and different fields of endeavor. The ultimate destiny of this dynasty would be the result of the strength or weakness, desire and effort for good or evil of the individuals making up that dynasty.

Just so, did the Supreme Intelligence, establish a dynasty on earth, giving his children everything possible to create a "Heaven on Earth" - but also giving them free Will.

Nothing was denied those who were to "inherit the Earth." But Divine Law provided that desires could only be achieved by EFFORT. In all nature, no form of life can exist without effort. Our first effort is to draw in the breath of life and that struggle for breath develops the organs necessary to breathing. Every form of life is constantly being acted upon by every other form of life (the chain of life); thus it is necessary to adapt to its environment or to MASTER the environment. This is equally true of groups or species. Development means change, and all nature is continually developing and thus is in a constant state of change. In the human, this means continual perfecting until Godhood is attained or a decline into oblivion of the personality takes place. This is equally true of civilizations and nations. The fact that civilizations, like dynasties, fall is not cause for pessimism unless no effort is made to start over again with a firmer foundation.

A story is told of a wealthy, retired businessman who, traveling in a western part of the United States, came upon a squatter sitting on a river bank. In discussing facts of life with him, he asked the squatter if he had no ambition to earn money. The squatter asked, "Why me want money?" The reply was that by earning money, he could retire and do whatever he wished. The squatter replied, "Hmph, me do that now." The real point of the story is rarely told. The squatter can at any time lose his freedom and be told to move on, because it has not been earned; whereas if the squatter had worked to own that land and had the moral and legal right to be there, he would not be told to "move on."
This is given the answer to the question: "If Heaven is so perfect, why would a Soul wish to leave it?" To experience the joys and pleasures of a physical life, the Soul must take on a physical body and "earn" the right to that life.

MAN IS WHERE THE LAW HAS PLACED HIM

One might consider why some people go through life, enjoying every moment, having no problems and, apparently, no responsibilities, while others appear to have nothing but trouble.

With the exception of those Souls that come to Earth with no purpose and through no desire of their own, Souls RETURNING to Earth have a destiny(3) created by the desires of a previous incarnation here.
-------------------------------------------------------------------- (3)MAN'S DESTINY is not pre-ordained by GOD, THE LAW, or anyone else BUT HIMSELF. If this were not so man would not have been given the FREE WILL required to plan, to provide and to shape his FUTURE.

Example: A group of people arrive on a sunny Caribbean isle. Some may have come purely for enjoyment, with no thought of doing anything constructive. This is their right, since they no doubt worked to earn the money for their vacation.

Some may be there to improve their health, having lost it through improper or unwise living. This, too, is their right, since if they achieve good health, they may be able to retain it, if they have also learned its value.

A few may be there to help the island and its people; dedicated to making it a more perfect place for humanity.

The remainder may have arrived there by chance or the demands of others. They may not want to be there but were forced to return to fulfill an obligation or pay a debt.

Just as the different individuals arrived on that island in various states of health, wealth and intelligence, so also do Souls coming to Earth, by reason of Karma (past experiences) arrive in various states of health, wealth, intelligence and indebtedness.

If enough travelers to the Caribbean island decide they wish to make it an earthly paradise, they can do so by their efforts and their desires. Likewise, Souls returning to Earth, by perfecting themselves and their surroundings, can make Earth a Paradise. This truth pertains to the individual and to humanity as a whole. The individual can establish the "Heaven within" and, when enough of Mankind has accomplished this, there will be "Heaven on Earth."(4)
--------------------------------------------------
(4) And I John, saw a NEW HEAVEN and a NEW EARTH: for the first heaven and first earth were passed away;..."... REVELATIONS.

The reincarnating Soul returns with Karma (good and bad) of health or illness; knowledge or ignorance; good environment or bad environment and with debits or credits. The circumstances may vary but the opportunity to improve conditions, within and without - material as well as Spiritual, exists for all.
"Whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap." This is as true of your future as it is of your past.

HOW COMPENSATION WORKS

Of all the edicts ascribed to the great Master Teacher, the NAZARENE, none is more positive, more direct and yet more widely misunderstood than this restatement of His teaching:

"...Whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap." _Gal, 6:7.

In this statement there is no "if" - no doubt - no qualification. It is as positive as if a judge, setting on a bench to render judgment, had made the pronouncement.

How many people, reading this statement in their family Bible or hearing it from their Minister or Priest, stop, even for a single instant, to realize that the Law of Compensation here referred to governs every thought, desire and act of their daily lives?

In the Biblical sense, "sowing" embraces every thought, effort and action made by man. All such sowing is UNDER the Law, and is GOVERNED by the Law of Action and REaction. EVERY ACTION, WHATEVER ITS NATURE, brings in RETURN a REACTION. The REaction or return (the punishment or reward) partakes of the EXACT NATURE of the original thought, desire or action.

Despite the extreme simplicity of the language used in this pronouncement on "sowing," and the fact that almost every Christian family possesses a Bible, only the exceptional person has given any thought to the positive statement, made without qualification. How many self-professed Bible students have ever attempted to analyze this statement in its true sense, or CONSIDER ITS APPLICATION TO THEIR OWN THOUGHTS, DESIRES AND ACTIONS - and the RESULTS AS IT AFFECTED THEMSELVES?

The actor, or "doer," he who "sows" or acts - and THIS INCLUDES EACH AND EVERY ONE - BY SUCH ACTION SETS INTO MOTION God's or the Divine Law - a Law which, by its REaction, known as the "reaping," either rewards or punishes him. This reaping, or punishment, will be in perfect harmony with the thought, the desire, and the action that resulted from, or followed the thought and desire.

If a Man believes in God, a JUST Law, as authority for the edict, "As ye sow, so shall ye also reap," then he must come to the realization and recognition that it is NOT God - a just and loving Father - who metes out rewards and punishments. Reason MUST tell him that whatever he reaps in the way of reward or punishment is the RETURN or REACTION of the action following his every thought and desire.

On this basis, God, as the Father, appears in a far more favorable light, than when we consider Him as constantly SPYING on His inconsiderate, ignorant and/or defiant children and sitting in judgment, like a hawk watching its prey, prepared to pounce on it at the first favorable opportunity.

The Creator gave Man free Will to choose or to act as he pleases, with the PROVISO that - to use a common saying - "as he makes his bed so must he lie in it." This is just another way of saying: "As ye sow, so must ye also reap."

There is, as already stated, no qualification to this edict. Throughout the centuries, people, with rare exception, have sought refuge in the doctrine of "forgiveness of sins," totally ignoring the positive Law. The net result is that humanity, as a whole, is admittedly in a for worse state, morally and Spiritually, than it was at the time when the NAZARENE tried to lead man into the "straight and narrow path."

No one has guessed what the state of Mankind might be had Man "bethought himself" before acting, with the certain knowledge that his ACTIONS WOULD REACT UPON HIMSELF. LET A MAN RECOGNIZE AS A CERTAINTY THAT, TO CHEAT HIS FELLOW MAN WILL MOST CERTAINLY BRING A REACTION, THAT, AS A NATURAL SEQUENCE, SOME ONE WILL IN SOME MANNER DEPRIVE HIM OF AN EVEN GREATER AMOUNT, AND HE WILL HESITATE BEFORE BEING DISHONEST.

ADMITTEDLY, all too many men are basically dishonest and immoral in their nature. These will not hesitate to commit dishonest and immoral acts, whatever the Law may be. Their INNATE DISHONESTY LEADS THEM TO BELIEVE THEY WILL BE ABLE TO FIND A WAY, OR THE MEANS, TO AVOID BEING HELD RESPONSIBLE AND MADE TO PAY. The normally honest and moral Man, once he actually comprehends the Law and its operation, will make every effort to live within, or in harmony with the Law, and be willing to AWAIT ITS REaction for his compensation.

Under this Law - and who dares say it is not a just Law - whatever Man does which he should NOT have done, must be undone, or fully compensated for, that he may again be free. Likewise, whatever may be Man's duty, if he leaves it undone, he must, to regain his lost estate, also compensate in some manner for neglecting his duty. All debts must be paid "to the uttermost farthing." This is the "reaping after the sowing."

Consideration of these simple, but self-evident facts leads to one obvious conclusion: to protect our own best interests, materially and Spiritually, we should think, desire and do only that which we are willing to reap knowing that there is NO possibility of evading the action of a just Law.

This Law: "As ye sow, so shall ye also reap," admits of no qualification whatever, is not a creed, but a CARDINAL FUNDAMENTAL of all religion, but not necessarily of all churchism. It is the ONE and ONLY means whereby men can remain morally and consciously free and by which the Brotherhood of Man may be finally established.

By queer contrast, we find that men of science have long recognized the absolute certainty of the Law of ACTION AND REACTION, so much so that they no longer think of denying it, but base(5) all their experiments upon it. On the other hand, those presumably concerned with Spiritual affairs either continue to deny that this Law prevails in Spiritual affairs and activities, or they delude themselves with the idea that, in this realm, God can be prevailed upon to set the Law aside in favor of those guilty who have not the honesty or the manhood to be ready and willing to pay their indebtedness to God, the Law, and Humanity.
-----------------------------------------------------
(5) Scientist and layman alike rely daily upon academic truths because they OBEY the LAWS pertinent thereto. When given the same opportunity and diligence SPIRITUAL LAWS would produce that same confidence.
-----------------------------------------------------

These cannot conceive, or will not admit, that there is but ONE Law with many activities or ramifications and that whatever governs the one likewise governs the other. THERE ARE NO FAVORITES, either in the material or Spiritual realms. Were it otherwise God would not be just; Law would NOT be LAW, but a vacillating, changeable, uncertain operation.

MAN'S CONTINUING GROWTH

The Soul, in first taking on a physical body, assumes the weaknesses of the physical and material. By overcoming those weaknesses and living within the Divine Law, it is possible to become as a God. That is, a perfect Soul in a perfect body and possessing a perfect mind.

These "gods" were described in Greek mythology. These "gods" are subject to the "Fall" the moment they step out of their realm. Since none of us can stay "within our own realm" in that we are influenced by every action of every other being upon the face of the earth, perfection cannot be achieved until all evil (non-good) is transmuted into good and we create a "Heaven on Earth" in which Man has known both good and evil and has chosen good.

This does NOT mean that Man cannot attain to Spiritual Immortality until this "Heaven on Earth" is achieved. He can forsake the flesh (the carnal demands and gross passions) and dedicate himself to becoming Spiritually perfect.

To find the answer as to WHY the first Souls came to Earth, the human must relate to the Divine Intelligence. Suppose a superintelligent being had the ability to create a "world." It might be a garden paradise with beautiful lakes, seas and land formations. To add to the purpose of this "world" he may decide to add creatures. Since nothing can exist without a purpose, all living things - plants and animals alike - would have to relate to each other or parish. Survival would depend upon adaptability and reproduction. Adaptability would be regulated by the "survival of the fittest." Reproduction is the strongest force in any living organism since its immortality depends upon the direct continuation of the species.

Thus, water life, to survive, would genetically evolve into air-breathing creatures and these, in turn, would evolve into flying, walking, crawling or whatever form would best suit them for survival. Ultimately, one creature best suited to be superior to all others would appear. This creature would differ from ALL others by virtue of the ability to reason and, when the Creator gave this creature the ability to know, understand and GIVE love, he bestowed the ability to attain Immortality not only of the physical but of the personality.

When we say "not only of the physical," we mean just that. Just as a plant perpetuates itself by dropping a tiny seed, with a complete reproduction of itself impressed therein, to the waiting earth, so does the human deposit a complete facsimile of himself, to insure a perpetuation of himself.

"Man," then, has the ability to become physically and Spiritually Immortal, but with that opportunity, he also has free Will to accept or reject it. The reasons for accepting or rejecting Immortality may be as varied as the humans involved. Of all living creatures, Man alone has the ability and free Will to accept or reject Immortality. The oak, for example, governed by Divine law, but without free Will, evolved into a perfect living thing. with the capacity to adapt to its environment and perpetuate itself. Need we further proof of the truth of Immortality?

Man has not only the ability to perpetuate his physical being, but also his CONSCIOUSNESS or personality. Without this capability, there would be little purpose in his working and learning up to the end of his present stay on earth. If the personality were to cease to be with what we choose to call death, there would be no incentive. There would be little point in planting a garden today if we had no assurance that, by giving it proper care, we could reap its harvest tomorrow.

MAN'S INHERENT "TALENTS"

The capabilities and possibilities for achievement and attainment with which every normal man and woman is endowed are talents. These "talents" are BOTH A GIFT AND AN OBLIGATION. They are a GIFT inherited by man IN CONJUNCTION WITH HIS SOUL AT THE TIME OF HIS BIRTH. The Gospel according to Saint Matthew describes the operating law of the talents.

"For the KINGDOM OF HEAVEN is as a man (father) travelling into a far country, WHO called his own servants (sons), and delivered unto them his goods.

"And unto one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one; to every man according to his several ability; and straightway took his journey.

Then he that had received the five talents went and traded with the same, and made THEM other five talents.

"and likewise he that had RECEIVED two, he also gained other two. But he that had received one went and digged in the earth, and hid his lord's money.

"After a long time the lord of those servants cometh, and reckoneth with them.

"And so he that had received five talents came and brought other five talents, saying, Lord, thou deliveredst unto me five talents: behold, I have gained beside them five talents more.

"His lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.

"He also that had received two talents came and said, Lord, thou deliveredst unto me two talents: behold, I have gained two other talents beside them.

"His lord said unto him, Well done, good and faithful servant; thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.

"Then he which had received the one talent came and said, Lord, I knew thee that thou art an hard man, reaping where thou hast not sown, and gathering where thou hast not strawed:

"And I was afraid, and went and hid thy talent in the earth: lo, THERE thou hast THAT is thine.

"His lord answered and said unto him. THOU WICKED and slothful servant, thou knowest that I reap where I sowed not, and gathered where I have not strawed:

"Thou oughtest therefore to have put my money to the exchangers, and THEN at my coming I should have received mine own with usury.

"Take therefore the talent from him, and give it unto him which hath ten talents.

"For unto every man that hath shall be given, and he shall have abundance; but from him that hath not shall be taken away even that which he hath.

"And cast ye the unprofitable servant into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
MATT. 25:14-30.(6)
-----------------------------------------------------
(6) There appears to be much confusion at times regarding the development of ALL Talents. The important thing is to do ones BEST with what one does have, FIRST. For further discourse on this Scripture, see THE INTERPRETATION OF ST. MATTHEW, this publisher.
-----------------------------------------------------

Very few who have read the Biblical story of the "talents" and/or listened to sermons on the subject by Ministers and Priests actually realize THAT THESE TALENTS IMPOSE UPON MAN AN OBLIGATION. IN EFFECT, THEY CONSTITUTE AN INDEBTEDNESS ASSUMED BY THE SOUL BEFORE ITS FIRST INCARNATION ON EARTH. NO SOUL CAN BE FREE, OR BECOME FREE BY ANY MEANS WHATEVER, UNTIL SUCH TIME AS THE DEBT FOR THE GIFT HAS BEEN PAID TO THE GIVER.

Another fact almost wholly overlooked or disregarded and DIRECTLY responsible for many failures is that this indebtedness is DIRECTLY to God, or the Creative Law. WE CALL IT THE DIVINE LAW. The important point is that EVERY EFFORT MADE TO REPAY THE DEBT WILL REACT TO THE BENEFIT OR THE ONE MAKING THE EFFORT, and not to any other person.

Furthermore, these "talents," representing Man's inherent powers, forces, opportunities, possibilities and capabilities, though in embryo and inert in almost all Mankind, will, if awakened and developed, make of Man a lesser god, a co-Creator and co-worker with God, since God and the functioning Law can work only through mediums, or agents, and these are God's creatures - men.

This is implied by God's own statement: "And now the sons of men (through the use of their talents, i.e., the development of powers, forces, possibilities and capabilities - opportunities) have BECOME as the Sons of God, knowing (as a result of their efforts and experiences) good from evil."

The story of the "talents" has been given but little thought by mankind as a whole. Yet it is one of the most important and potent of all Biblical narratives; explaining, as it does, an Absolute Law THAT NO HUMAN CREATURE CAN EVADE. In its first phase, it clearly states that the "traveler,: i,e., the Lord, God, or Creator, gave certain "talents" unto, or into possession of EACH ONE of His creatures.

There are two other phases of this Law. One is that of rewards; the reaping after the sowing, or MAKING USE OF the talents. The other is that of punishment for those who fail to awaken and bring into manifestation these talents or inheritances.

The theme of the "rewards" is that the more active the inheritor is in arousing, developing and bringing his inherited possibilities into manifestation in the world of fact, the greater will be his reward and blessing. For every successful effort, ANOTHER SUCCESS WILL BE ADDED TO IT; hence the saying, or exposition of an ABSOLUTE Law: "To him that hath shall be given." Why? Because by his faithfulness and correct use of that which he ALREADY HAS, AS A RESULT OF OBEDIENCE TO THE LAW AND THE EFFORT MADE, he made manifest his Faith in God and the Law. He WISELY used that which in turn was given into his possession as it is given to EVERY man (each one has equal opportunities - there are no favorites). He has, by obedience, BECOME the "wheat" of the APOCALYPSE.

Likewise, the other phase of the Law is well stated in a very few words:

"...Thou wicked and slothful (careless, lazy, neglectful drone) servant, thou knewest that I reap where I sowed not, and gather where I have not strawed.: - MATT.25:26.

This is an EXEMPLIFICATION of "whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap." GAL.6:7.(7) At first glance the Law appears to be unjust and contradictory. But when we reason by analogy, it quickly becomes plain. The master husbandman furnishes his servants (employees) with the grain to be sown, and after the grain is sown, it produces many times, with the result that the reaping is many times the sowing and BOTH the master husbandman AND the servant reap a reward, increase or profit.
-----------------------------------------------------
(7) Those who are indeed Ministers and Priests - servants - of God find in this the severest condemnation of our present system of catering to the indolent, petting them and further weakening them by supporting them in one way or another. Here is seen a positive condemnation of those methods which force the honest, active and thrifty to give of their hard-earned gains to the support of decadent nations, in defiance of the edict Divinely given: "By the sweat of thy brow (all men) shalt thou earn they bread."
-----------------------------------------------------

If the servant - the laborer - fails in the sowing, if he neglects to develop his inherent, dormant "talents," his possibilities and capabilities, taking advantage of every opportunity to improve his position, both master (the Creator) and servant (Man and Mankind) are defrauded. The servant, by not having sown "wheat" (constructive effort), is guilty of having "chaff" (neglect of opportunities), and is deprived of that which is life - destroyed by the REaction of the Law.

It is well to remember that Man - he can be called the Soul if you will - came to earth so that here, by means of his desires and efforts, bringing into activity or manifestation his inherent "talents" or possibilities, might gain experience and knowledge and become a "Son of God" as a reward for his efforts. Only as he does this does he fulfill the Law and WORK OUT HIS FREEDOM FROM EARTHLY, OR TEMPORAL, CONDITIONS.

If he fails to obey the Law, he will be as ignorant at his death as he was at birth, and in ADDITION, be loaded with the "sins" or burdens of his evil life, hence THERE CAN BE NO PLACE IN THE KINGDOM FOR HIM. He will be, as so clearly pointed out in the exposition of ST. JOHN, among the "chaff" to be BURNED UP, that is, destroyed. REVELATION is most positive in this respect.

Man, at birth, begins his pilgrimage, NOT as a privileged being, but with possibilities of BECOMING such. His "stock in trade" materially and Spiritually speaking, consists of the inherent dormant talents, desires and Will. If he gains the necessary wisdom or understanding of the Law and its operation, and actively begins to awaken and make use of his capabilities by bringing them into manifestation, THE OTHER TALENTS OR OPPORTUNITIES WILL BE GIVEN TO HIM TO FURTHER ADVANCE HIMSELF.

IF MAN IS AMBITIOUS, energetic and becomes inspired by an ideal and an object to be achieved, he will make full use of that which he at the moment possesses. He then gradually, and by degrees, becomes a creator, in the likeness of his Father, and ultimately accomplishes the seemingly impossible. In truth, he will have achieved the status of a Son of God. He is the Biblical "sower of wheat" and his inheritance is the kingdom.

On the contrary, if he is lazy, inert, and laboring under the delusion that God or his fellow men should do for him that which he refuses to do for himself, being governed by inertia, the flesh and the carnal self, then he, like the Biblical character, will find that the "talents" he DID possess were taken from him, that is BECOME DETERIORATED AND DESTROYED FOR WANT OF INCENTIVE AND EXERCISE.

He has - to again refer to the APOCALYPSE - become of the "chaff" and, the chaff, as an inert substance, bereft of life, will "die out" or be destroyed - covered over or plowed under, to give life and substance to the "wheat."
Unfortunately, those who disobey every part of the Law, who perform no useful, constructive labor and who fail to provide for those for whom they are responsible, are the most outspoken in their complaints. They denounce those who have come into possession of many good things as a result of their continued efforts made IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE DIVINE LAW, shall be compelled to share their bounty, at least in part, and that what they have acquired shall be divided among the drones.

These, and there are now many millions of them, forget, or ignore, the all-important lesson taught in the parable of the talents as illustrated in these two verses:

"And so he that had received five talents came and brought other five talents, saying, Lord, thou delivereth unto me five talents: behold, I have GAINED besides them five talents more.

"His lord said unto him, Well done thou good and faithful servant: thou has been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord."

The word GAINED is to be noted. This is a synonym for COMPENSATION as well as for INCREASE and even for PROFIT, so much condemned by the drone and failure. THIS IS THE LAW. Were it otherwise, the wheat would yield but a grain and nations would starve. Without the principle involved in this LAW OF INCREASE, the manufacturer of an essential article would be able to produce but one more article for each article sold and millions of men would be idle, lacking the positions and high wages wherewith to obtain either the necessities and/or the pleasures of life. He who sows the one grain of wheat will reap many in return, be the sower who he may. The increase, sown again, will increase still more, until the sower or servant, will have become a "lord."

The "instrument" Man uses to carry out his design, destiny or purpose is the mind. Of all living creatures, Man is the sole possessor of this instrument.

HOW MAN SHOULD USE HIS MIND

Just as a computer is programmed to bring about certain desired results, so does the personality impress upon the mind(8) a program to bring about results (good or bad) that are as predictable as are those of the computer. Every thought, every act, impresses itself upon the mind according to the degree of intensity (desire or efforts) of that thought or act and the results are in direct proportion. Thus, continued, repeated evil (ungood) acts and thoughts will result in the personality's losing the Divine Spark. Continued good thoughts and acts will bring that Divine Spark into Consciousness.
--------------------------------------------------
(8) The development of the computer is based on the nervous-mental processes of MAN and his thought world. However it only exposes a fragment of man's capacity and potentialities in this realm of being.
--------------------------------------------------

Thereby, if a person programs his mind to become a great musician and constantly desires and works to become just that, he MUST, eventually, become a great musician. He may not become a FAMOUS musician unless he programs his mind to that end also; but he must, in certainty, achieve the goal desired.

This is the underlying factor in all SUCCESS... the proper programming of the mind,(9) guided by the Soul-personality. The more Spiritual the personality, the more Spiritual the guidance; the more
physical the personality, the more physical-material will be the result.

-----------------------------------------------------
(9) When the mind accepts a truth, it is no longer an altogether mortal mind, THE HIDDEN TEACHINGS OF THE INITIATE MASTERS, this publisher.
-----------------------------------------------------

As with the computer, once the mind has been programmed AND SET IN ACTION, results are inevitable (unless there is "malfunction," i.e., interruption, or willful discontinuance of action and effort). For instance, once a smoker has programmed his mind to smoking, the mind, plus the nicotine, conditions the body to that program and it will take a reverse programming in proportion to negate the results.

The animal's brain is programmed by environment and instinct; Man is capable of programming his own mind and mastering his own environment, placing within his reach, according to his own efforts, every worthy, sincerely desired achievement.

Mind is the connecting link with the Superior Intelligence and there is no limit to the amount of intelligence the individual may draw upon. Solomon was able to answer all questions and solve all problems by reason of being in tune with that Infinite Intelligence. Just as we are able to plug in appliances to the all but limitless electrical energy supplied by a distant generator, so is the human personality, through the link of the mind, able to tap the all-pervading energy of the Universe.

The closer the mind is attuned to God, the greater the capacity to attain to Consciousness (the Awareness of God) and the greater the degree of Consciousness, the greater is the degree of Immortality of the personality of Soul.

ABUSE OF THE MIND AND SOUL

The proponents of the use of such agents and drugs as LSD and other mind-affecting substances, claim that these "expand the consciousness." Nothing could be further from the truth.

Alcohol was one of the first and more natural means of "expanding the consciousness." The ACTUAL results of its use are: release in inhibitions and a resultant loss of moral and reasoning restraints. In addition, continued indiscriminate use of alcohol very often results in serious mental and physical problems.

LSD and similar drugs are far more dangerous, in that in addition to destroying the mind and body there is very real danger to the SPIRITUAL. THE REASON: These drugs cause a breakdown of the normal moral code that subconsciously and consciously has become a part of every decent human being and, IN ADDITION, BLOCKS the "inner voice" or conscience that has been developed through the ages. The blocking of this "inner voice" allows all of the baser emotions - the "animal" - to take possession. This is true of even the controlled use of these drugs. The UNcontrolled use has resulted in derangement of the mind, violent crimes and self-destruction.

The proponents of the use of drugs of this type argue that "it is necessary and desirable to have experience in other dimensions, and LSD allows the mind to experience things beyond the scope of the conscious mind."

The Great Work teaches that the student must profit by experience, be it good or evil, by OVERCOMING the evil and learning from the good. It DOES NOT teach the seeking of evil. We are taught to expand our Consciousness by the controlling of our subconscious to where it becomes our "inner voice" to guide us in our every act. LSD destroys the Consciousness by blocking the "inner voice" and allowing the lower instincts to have free rein over the emotions.

Attaining to SOUL CONSCIOUSNESS requires the overcoming of the animal instincts and replacing or transmuting them into SPIRITUAL attributes. There IS no "quick and easy"(10) way to Attainment, no shortcuts to true Awareness. Whether it be alcohol, drugs or psychotics, the use of ANY non-SPIRITUAL means to expand the consciousness, can lead ONLY TO DISASTER.
-----------------------------------------------------
(10) Those who attempt to enter the Kingdom by means other than the way of the LAW, are such as have spent their lives catering to the desires of the carnal senses. THE INTERPRETATION OF ST. JOHN, this publisher. -----------------------------------------------------

Inhibitions (normally) are the result of past experiences and training and serve as a guard and guide to our emotions. To remove or release them by drugs or other unnatural means can only lead to a loss of moral and SPIRITUAL values.

REASON FOR BEING

DUALITY EXISTS IN THE ENTIRE UNIVERSE

RELATIONSHIP OF MAN AND WOMAN

Thus far, we have spoken of "Man" with no mention of "Woman" generally, we refer to Mankind, i.e., the human race, as "Man: and speak of Woman specifically only when there is need to separate or define the sexes.

The Bible states: "...she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man." This implies a One-ness, a time when male and female were in fact one. The Infinite Being is neither Man nor Woman, and if we must use labels, we might say that the Divine Law governing the physical-material would be masculine and the Laws governing the Spiritual would be feminine.

A Soul, upon seeking to inhabit a human form, would take on the character of the personality of that particular human. The gender of the human is NOT dependent upon the body but upon the personality. Thus the ideal Man would have none of the characteristics of the Woman, though his ACTION may be influenced by a Woman. A Woman would have none of the Man's characteristics but may be influenced by a Man. An ideal Man-Woman pair would have no need to share their duties since, by attending to their own duties, their Work would be completed. This constitutes the "partnership" of marriage.

When defined, PARTNERSHIP infers equality, the state of quality of being equal, as in value or degree. The state of condition of being a partner. The relationship subsisting between partners.

"Equality improves manner, for it strengthens the basis of all good manners, respect for the other men and women simply as men and women." Respect for others requires respect for oneself.

A partnership consists of a mutual agreement on the part of each participant to do his or her "part" toward the achievement of a mutual goal. As such, each agrees to fulfill his or her responsibilities and duties toward the end in view. Where by necessity (as with the working wife and mother) those responsibilities overlap, the goal should be the governing factor, spurring each to assume his or her fair share. This can and should be accomplished without usurping either "partner's" status as male and female, husband and wife, father and mother.

Woman is Man's partner by choice, by nature, by DIVINE INTENT. She, in her function as a total Woman, finds her fulfillment as a wife and mother. The Woman most content with her role as such, has first of all, a strong sense of identity, a FULL ASSURANCE of her own worth as a human being. In that awareness and assurance, she finds no need to "compete"(1) as it were, with her husband or any other man. Man and woman, being so totally diverse, physically, emotionally, mentally, therefore cannot be "equal" as such. Nonetheless, each is NECESSARY to the other, "completing and complementing" one another IDEALLY.
-----------------------------------------------------
(1) The tragedy of the so-called, "woman's-liberation" (?), movement is that woman in seeking this questionable achievement has failed to realize that she must "STEP DOWN" from her pedestal to become man's equal.
-----------------------------------------------------

It would be strange if no mention were made of LOVE. Unless one has a marriage merely of convenience or expediency, there should exist a LOVING REGARD for the other that permits him (or her) to be himself, with no demand that he be otherwise.

Hence, a true marriage must be based on separate, complete identities functioning side by side, by choice, in loving acceptance of each as his own person, toward a common and SHARED GOAL: that of lives spent together, each complementing and completing the other, according to DIVINE LAW.

This does not mean that there may not be times when it is necessary for Man to do Woman's work it is necessary for Man to do Woman's work. and vice versa. It is only when one wishes to do the work of the other, instead of his or her own, that Divine Law is broken. The personality inhabiting a male body that wants(2) to look like a Woman, dress like a Woman and ACT like a Woman is NOT a Man but is, in fact, a Woman.
-----------------------------------------------------
(2) THIS IS THE AGE OF REVERSE. The man or woman betraying their CREATIVE FORCES and EMOTIONS may through this CHANGE lose the possibility of BECOMING a Conscious Individuality.
-----------------------------------------------------

RIGHT RELATIONSHIPS

Throughout the centuries, but more especially today, we see the results of one sex's desiring the rights and privileges of the other. Effeminate "men" and masculine "women" are in evidence in all walks of life.

Under Divine Law, the PERSONALITY has a right to change; the personality in a male body that truly desires to be a Woman IN A WOMAN'S BODY may make that transition in a succeeding incarnation, but when the personality now inhabiting a male body decides to assume feminine characteristics and become a "wife" to a so-called "man," it is an abomination unto the Divine Law.

There may be instances where a man may do the work of a woman and still remain all Man. Thus a man who takes care of a household during his wife's illness is NOT assuming the role of a woman, but the role of a protector of Woman. The Woman working to earn a living for herself and children (through necessity) is NOT assuming the role of Man but rather carrying out her role as a mother in taking care of her family.

WOMAN'S ROLE

When a Woman complains of the "inequality of women" she is unhappy with herself as a Woman, for the Woman complete within herself has an awareness of her innate equal-while-diverse being and can FIND and MAKE contentment in her role.

Woman's place in Mankind is to be "honored above all else" (the Spiritual in relation to the Physical) only so long as she is content to be so honored. In today's world, women all too often are UNCERTAIN of what their aim and duty in life should be, and question: "Is a woman to be ONLY a housekeeper, sweetheart and mother to her husband's children?"

While being housekeeper, sweetheart and mother may readily be conceded to be an all-time, full-time "job," it does not offer the wise Woman a complete life, a life she can make possible if she gives the necessary consideration and wise planning to her future, BEFORE marriage. Admittedly and truthfully, "love is blind" and seldom is able to see any weaknesses in those loved. But foreknowledge and wise planning may be combined with even the most perfect love.

It IS possible to be sweetheart (Biblically, everything in its proper place or "there is a time for everything") wife, mother and housekeeper, to which FOR A HAPPILY MARRIED LIFE must be added: A COMPANION TO HER HUSBAND. It is in this one respect, more than in anything else, that marriages so frequently fail.

Before marriage, the Woman who is then just a sweetheart, makes every effort to share all things with her beloved. But by and large, no sooner are they married than she begins to feel that her various duties are so many, and so demanding, that she has little or no time to be actually a companion and share the "little" things, which to her husband are so important. To be enjoyed, they MUST BE SHARED WITH A WOMAN - SWEET-HEART OR WIFE. if possible. If not...then with ANOTHER woman, and the sorrows of the wife begin. Women, wise in the ways of men and generally of none too noble character, are aware of this necessity in the life of the best and most moral men who ever lived, and for selfish purposes, use it to their advantage.

The first step, then - the initial need, is for the young Woman who wishes to be loved, who yearns for one to love and be loved by in return - to make this great need of Man a SUBCONSCIOUS IMPRESSION. It must guide her FROM THE VERY BEGINNING OF HER MARRIED LIFE. She must combine this as BOTH A PLEASURE AND A DUTY WITH HER OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES. If she does, assuming her husband is a Man of honor, responsibility and high moral sense, her life will be as complete and happy as possible in a world where there is much sorrow and disappointment.

Considering further this most vital need for companionship on the part of Man, how many women whose married life ended in sorrow and failure can think back to early married life? The husband, no more than a BOY IN SPIRIT, wanted to do something which interested him as a Man, but which held little interest for her as a Woman. He requested or invited her companionship in what we wished to do, but she, having various household "duties" in mind (which she would realize, if she gave it a thought -that he too realized - might well be done later), answered often in an off-hand manner: "You go ahead and do what you wish - there is so much work for me to do in the house, or for the children." The first refusals and his comment to himself will be: "Oh, what's the use?" And she has lost the most important part of her husband: HIS NEED FOR HER.

To abdicate her rightful place and responsibility as a Woman, to want the benefits that are properly the rights of Man, can only bring about her fall from her high position with resultant unhappiness and disharmony within her inmost being.

MAN'S ROLE

Biblically and under Divine Law, Man is the PROVIDER, the strength, the protector, the builder, the physical-material. His inmost desire should be to BE A MAN. TO BE A SUCCESS IN HIS ENDEAVORS. This would at first glance appear to be selfish. But beneath this desire is the ideal, the Spiritual outlook: TO PROVIDE THE BEST POSSIBLE FOR THE WELFARE OF THOSE HE LOVES, FOR THE HAPPINESS OF THOSE WHO ARE HIS ASSOCIATES AND COMPANIONS, AND SHARE HIS LIFE AND HELP TO MAKE IT HAPPY. Directly associated with this is the moral and spiritual duty of the wife and, later, of the family, to MAKE THIS AS EASY AS POSSIBLE, by patiently and sympathetically listening to his problems, his failures if any, and even his weaknesses. They should offer counsel where possible, BUT NEVER CENSURE OR ACCUSE.(3)
-----------------------------------------------------
(3) It has become commonplace in stories, movies and television to distort the DIVINE responsibility of the husband as a father and protector of the HOME. It is the intent and purpose of the evil forces at work to first debase and destroy the FAMILY and HOME PRINCIPLE in order to achieve their fiendish purposes.
-----------------------------------------------------

Primarily and simply, although not so easily carried out as it may appear, the husband's duty is to make the best home possible for his wife and children. He must engage in some work, business or profession to provide for them to the best of his ability. To be morally and Spiritually loyal to them and to protect them under all conditions and circumstances.

Under the Law governing every man's responsibility to himself and those for whom he has assumed responsibility (as an example, his family) HE IS COMPELLED TO MAKE EVERY EFFORT, EVEN IN THE MOST ADVERSE CONDITIONS, TO EARN BY HIS LABOR THE WHEREWITHAL TO SUPPORT HIMSELF AND HIS FAMILY. Similarly, his family is bound by the Law to make sacrifices and even suffer until such time as he, BY HIS OWN EFFORTS, IMPROVES HIS CIRCUMSTANCES. He is entirely under the Law of "the laborer is worthy of his hire" and only he who labors, i.e., makes an effort, is entitled to a livelihood for himself and his family.

This is naturally a strict interpretation of the Divine Law, that governs Man whether he will or not. Just as naturally, there are exceptions when it is ACTUALLY IMPOSSIBLE for him to obey the Law, as in emergencies. It is here that charity steps in for the time being to help him - as he still continues to do all in his power to HELP HIMSELF.

FRUGALITY

To live within one's income, whatever that may be, is the Divine Law. Within the family circle, this same Law applies. IT IS PART OF THE LAW THAT MAN SHOULD DESIRE TO IMPROVE HIS EVERY POSITION, SATISFY HIS EVERY NATURAL, RIGHTFUL DESIRE: BECAUSE THIS IS THE INCENTIVE TO EFFORT. It is also a Law, part of the Divine Law, that he (including the family) shall not become impatient and dissatisfied if he is unable to fulfill his desires as quickly as he might wish, or if he is unable to keep pace with his friends and neighbors.

He is bound by the Law that there shall be no waste. He must husband his resources in every respect, and give first consideration to the physical needs and comforts of his family and himself. He can then gradually, as he is able, by every honest means, supply the things that make life easier and more pleasant. This he can do without the shame and Spiritual self-condemnation which would follow were he to use the substance required for well-being, for the purpose of ease and comfort, however desirable such may be when honestly and rightfully attained.

Some women question, "I feel I would want to share my husband's life, his work and interests. Is this an unnatural or abnormal desire?" The desire is entirely natural and normal, and may be made the basis or foundation of a perfectly happy life. It is likewise the desire of every normal husband in the beginning of married life unless, as so frequently happens, there have been misunderstandings, which may have given rise to doubts and fears before marriage. In this case, it is wise not to marry, because the delicate or sensitive feelings have been disturbed or at least badly strained.

The outline of understanding and the sharing of interest are based on COMPANIONSHIP, INTEREST IN WHAT THE HUSBAND IS ENGAGED IN, AND WHAT THEY PLAN TO ACCOMPLISH TOGETHER. They should discuss all important affairs, never arguing any point where there is lack of harmony, but AGREEING TO DISAGREE, EACH ONE POSSESSING LIKE PRIVILEGES. (These disagreements should be controlled and discussed only in privacy, not in the presence of the children.)

Finally, the husband is to remember that: You have made your wife the mistress of your house, treat her with the respect and affection due her so that by your example there will be born respect and adoration for the good, the beautiful, the just and the righteous in the minds and hearts of your children, that they may display these virtues before men, and possess the strength and the moral courage to uphold all rights as did the fathers of old. In this respect there can be no halfway measures under the Divine Law, and your obedience will govern your future destiny."

DUALITY IN ALL THE UNIVERSE

Therefore, the Man is the provider, protector, builder and his strength is the physical-material. The Woman is the gentle side; her strength is in her being, not in her muscles. She is the recipient of the provider, the Spiritual. There would be no purpose in life if the provider had no one for whom to provide, the lover no one to love, if strength were not tempered by compassion or the Spiritual had no material-physical in which to reside. Just as "Faith without works is dead," just so is the spiritual without the material-physical. The Earth is organic and inorganic, the Spiritual and the material. Without both, it can never be "Heaven."

This duality,(4) the masculine and feminine, is essential to "all that is." The Gospel according to St. John begins: "In the beginning was the Word (Law) and the Word was with God, and the Word was God."
-----------------------------------------------------
(4) MALE and FEMALE created HE them, all in accordance with HIS wisdom and HIS DIVINE PLAN. Man cannot change this except to his own destruction. -----------------------------------------------------

Being "with God" implies that while the "Word is God," God is also more than the Word. The finite mind cannot grasp that which is infinite, but by reasoning it may be able to come to an understanding of it. Just as a child may not be able to grasp what "two" is - but by first giving him ONE apple and then another, he is able to comprehend that "two" is more that one. Thus, while the finite mind may not be able to grasp the Infiniteness of God, it CAN grasp the understanding that God is complete - dual, positive and negative, masculine and feminine, Spirit and Form., the Way (procedure) and the Word (Law).

If we will consider our Earth as the Form and God as the Spirit, we can better understand our reason for being. NOTHING can exist without a purpose, thus The Word could have no meaning until there was Form to which the Word would be Law. When the first matter appeared, a governing Law (gravity) regulated it. The simplest forms of duality came into being. Night and Day, Light and Darkness, Heat and Cold. Later came the more complex dualities: Land and Water, Male and Female and Good and Evil.

Actually, there is no such thing as "evil" since all God's creations, being of God, can only be good. It is only in the misuse of good that evil can exist; having free Will, Man could use all things on this Earth for good, or for evil (misuse), i.e., for the "flesh (animal) or spirit (soul)." An elementary example: Food eaten to satisfy the appetite would be "for the flesh" while food eaten to maintain the balance of the body's needs would be "for the spirit."

Man was given a brain to be used as an instrument to receive from the Infinite Intelligence as well as to reason. This brain contains billions of cells that "record" not only guidance from the Infinite Intelligence but also events in daily life. The guidance from the Infinite Intelligence serves as Man's CONSCIENCE and when the Conscience is not influenced by Man's judgment it is infallible. Only when his physical appetites influence his reason is Man led astray. Thus, while Man's Conscience may guide him into a marriage that is under the Law, his physical appetite may lead him to "reason" that; if marriage to one woman is good, then surely it is better to marry two women. Experience would soon show him the error of his "reasoning" and, if compensation is made, he will have enlarged his knowledge and been made aware of "moral law" and the rules and regulations governing behavior is society.

GENERATION AND REGENERATION

The original "spark" taken in with Man's first breath was an extension of the All-Soul and NOT an INDIVIDUAL SOUL. it was not until this Man partook of the fruit of the tree of knowledge that he became a living Soul, capable of becoming a Conscious Soul.

We can relate this to the first "earthly father" who having taken unto himself a wife and desiring to expand his capabilities, decided to have a son. This son would not have been born because of HIS (the son's) desire, but would be an extension of the father and would remain so until he also would partake of the tree of knowledge, i.e., begin to think for himself, be responsible unto himself and become an individual personality apart from his father.

Thus did Adam and Eve have two sons, one of whom took upon himself the way of the flesh (physical) and one of whom returned to the Heavenly Father (Spiritual). Thereafter many sons and daughters were born to Adam and Eve (Mankind).

The Eden of the Bible was an earthly Paradise without sin - an extension of the Infinite, and Adam and Eve were children of the All-Father. When these children ate of the forbidden fruit, they were responsible unto themselves under Divine Law. They were then capable of sin (the Misuse of God-given rights). This may be likened to an earthly child, coming of age, who is permitted use of the family car. He could use the car to carry on his family's interest, or he could use it for personal interests, good or bad. In itself this right granted by the father was good, but an instrument that could extend the son's ability to expand his own interest, or those of his family.

Man can become a Conscious Soul by coming into a Oneness with God. Being totally aware of all that is God, he can become so pure that, like Elijah, he could ascend to Heaven in pure Spirit. Thus a Soul could ascend to Heaven in pure Spirit. Thus a Soul could merge with the PERSONALITY and that personality could attain to Spiritual Immortality with no desire to return to Earth. This Immortal Soul would then, having known good and evil, be capable of guiding earthly Souls. These Souls are known as the Hierarchies, Angels, Seraphims and so on, according to their desires and capabilities. It must be kept in mind that there are LEVELS of Consciousness in the Spiritual world just as there are in the physical world which Randolph, in his AFTER DEATH, describes in great detail.

To attain to PHYSICAL Immortality,(5) Man must seek marriage with woman and produce offspring, in order to perpetuate his physical personality. It is this physical personality, through many or few incarnations, that may reach perfection of body, mind and Spirit and thus become an Immortal Being. A God. -----------------------------------------------------
(5) This has no reference to the perpetuation of the present physical body but the PERSONALITY. Although Biblically, Methuselah did prolong his existence close to a thousand years, longevity generally is not desirable where congenital weaknesses or other imperfections exist.
-----------------------------------------------------

In the higher group of Man, wherein are found the Saints, the Mystics, the Holy Men, a sublimated sex-drive prevails. Since there is no desire to Immortalize the physical self, there is no need of Woman. The one great desire is to attain to a Spiritual Consciousness and serve God and Man.

In the lower grouping, the sex drive is THE, and very often the MOST powerful, force in their lives, since children are necessary to their physical Immortality. For this reason alone have the gods of mythology performed their godlike accomplishments - in order that they might win a goddess to bring their children into being.

At the other end of the scale - the animal (two-or four-legged) has an Nature-ordained drive to reproduce itself, perverted in the two-legged animal by a desire for self-gratification.

Sex has a far greater purpose in Man. It is a means of rejuvenation of body and the raising up of, or transmutation of, the gross into the Spiritual. When sexual intercourse is the culmination of love, it is the highest form of devotion to Divine Law.(6)
-----------------------------------------------------
(6) The text THE MYSTERY OF SEX: RACE REGENERATION, this publisher, emphasizes this as follows: "Time and again we have emphasized the ABSOLUTELY IRREVOCABLE LAW that the marriage rite may be indulged only for three purposes: Procreation, Recreation and Regeneration. It is Divinely forbidden for man and women to seek gratification for SELF-SATISFACTION AND PLEASURE ALONE. There must always be a deeper incentive as already pointed out; such as the mutual exchange of the magnetic-electric forces between those engaged in the rite, or for self-elevation and spiritualization.
-----------------------------------------------------

Unfortunately, throughout history, youth have tried to find love through sex and have found only disappointment and heartbreak. Much is being written today of the "technique" of sex and the rights of women in sex. Two people who truly love need no one to tell them "how" or what their rights are. The old cliche' of "Love will find a way" is true in this, as in many other instances. There ARE, of course, exceptions, but these need professional and INDIVIDUAL counseling, NOT the distorted and often perverted advice of so-called "experts." Several of those who give advice admit to "uncounted affairs" as "proof" of their authority.

Like the food glutton, the sex glutton can never find peace. The glutton feeds an insatiable appetite that demands more and more until the carnal controls every thought and act. Like alcohol and drugs, carnal sex is a sickness that is the master, never the slave.

The individual who has been taught to regard the sexual expression as primarily a physical and/or reproductive act, without regard to the Spiritual or REgenerative aspect, will develop a taste for unnatural or unbalanced expression. The Desire of the individual for the emotional or Spiritual essence (love) will not be recognized for what it is; consequently, the individual will try to satisfy the longing by more and more variety in sexual expression. The more variance in his indulgence, the greater will be the "craving." Thus the individual, unable to understand the reason for his inability to satisfy this craving, will become a sexual "glutton," not realizing that the marital embrace must be the ultimate expression of Love - for only then can it be a regeneration and completely satisfying act.

The unknowing individual feels a physical urge and seeks a partner who meets the approval of his physical senses to satisfy this urge. To suggest that many health problems are directly traceable to imbalanced and love-less sexual embrace may be met with disbelief or worse. The process of restoration of the marital embrace as regenerative and an act of love may be a long one, but one that will be rewarded with a sense of peace and fulfillment, increased health and vigor and an entirely new sense of well-being.

The gratifying of the physical alone will become repulsive, and the individual will no longer be aroused by carnal senses. Instead, it will be the fulfillment of love and the means of REgeneration. Dr. R. S. Clymer, in the book RACE REGENERATION states:

"There are very few people, irrespective whether married or single, who actually understand sexual laws; consequently it is rarely that the embrace is consummated as it should be. In most cases, he indulges with no thought beyond his immediate gratification, receiving neither joy not strength; hence little wonder she comes to hate and despise the act and feels disgust at the mere thought of it. Because of this ignorance and selfishness, the exercise is hardly ever performed in a divine and holy manner but becomes a purely mechanical, matter-of-fact, uninspired process. Here, indeed, is one of the main causes for much of the dissatisfaction in married life."

"If a man does not love a woman to the extent of wanting to caress and kiss her BEFORE he indulges in the Rite, and to do so AFTER the completion of the embrace, he does not really love her; the most that can be said for him is, that he is impassioned by her. Under such conditions, he has no right to request her favors; to do so is to prostitute his powers and energies."

"When the sexual union is the result of love, it seeks to give, not to receive, AND IN GIVING, receives tenfold. When the young are taught in the home, by example, the meaning of true love, much of the world's ills will disappear."
