Chapter Ten

The Illuminated Son of the Father

All Initiates, who became Soul Conscious, Anointed, in past ages, taught the same Law, the identical principles of truth, though in different terms and the needs of the people. Here a lonely carpenter; there a dreamy poet; here poor cobbler, there a tiller of the soil. Some were of giant intellect; still others of the dimple folks. Some rich, others poor. Each and every one of these sublime souls had but one end in view: To inculcate the one sublime and fundamental truth - within man is to be Un-earthed the hidden Soul, the Christos, the Divine spark, that it may become the Illuminated son of the Father.

According to the legends of the period in which the Nazarene lived and labored, as well as the revelations contained in the manuscripts lately unearthed and translated, the Master-Teacher was known neither as "Jesus," nor as the' Christ," during his sojourn on earth, but generally as the son of Joseph, and the Nazarene.

Even the disciples were uncertain as to his real status and whispered among themselves: "This is he!" and repeated the pregnant statement to others. The Nazarene, with his gentle dignity and the reserve that characterizes those who have actually attained to illumination and Soul Consciousness or Initiation, simply called himself the "son of man," and admitted nothing further. To his statement that he was the son of man he added, "The foxes have holes and the birds of the air have nests, but the son of man has no where to lay his head."

Influenced by the popular Jewish concepts and hopes concerning a Messiah who was to come and be their King, the disciples also conceived the idea of a "kingdom of heaven" on earth as a political-religious government of which the Nazarene would be crowned king and of which they would be selected as his ministers. This is implied in their question: "Lord, wilt thou at this time restore the kingdom of Israel?" The themselves were Israelites, though separate from the other Jewish sects. Only the Essenes know who the Nazarene actually was the full nature of his mission.

The Nazarene bent his every effort to combat, in so far as possible, this widespread and altogether erroneous idea of an earthly kingdom, and at the same time he tried to reveal to them the true nature and work of a "messiah," representing a Spiritual royalty. He communicated to them by many precepts, in parable and symbolism, the sublime truth concerning He who he called his "Father." He imparted to his Apostles the mysterious or Spiritual methods for the uniting of all Souls with the Invisible.

This he tried to illustrate to them and to all mankind by his life and works, and finally by his death; he tried to show how little he cared for worldly possessions or power, and how anxious he was to be worthy of being a son of God.

Furthermore, he attempted to convince mankind that they, even like himself, might join with him in this sublime effort, if they so desired; and to interpret to them, as they became worthy, the entire Mystery of the Divine process of gaining Soul Consciousness and harmony with the Divine Law for their eternal welfare.

The son of man and the Son of God are potentially one. The son of man is the Alpha, the beginning; the Son of God, the Omega, or final of the Great Work. The highest manifestation of God is that individual who in constitution, form, intelligence, labor and manifestation, has attained most nearly to the Image of the Creator; that individual who, as a result of obedience to the Divine Law, has become like the Father, enveloped in Light - one of the Anointed.

Why is it then, that men, potentially sons of God, fail to recognize the father and remain in complete ignorance of Him - so much so that they even deny His existence? Isaiah 59:2-10 offers the answer:

"Your inequities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you that he will not hear.

"For your hands are defiled with blood and your fingers with inequity; your lips hath spoken lies, you tongue hath muttered perverseness.

"None calleth for justice, nor any pleadeth for truth; they trust in vanity, and speak lies; they conceive mischief and bring forth iniquity...

"...their works are works of iniquity and the act of violence is in their hands.

"Their feet run to evil and they make haste to shed innocent blood; their thoughts are thoughts of iniquity; wasting and destruction are in their paths...whosoever goeth therein doeth not know peace.

"Therefore is judgment far from us neither doth righteousness overtake us; we wait for light, but behold obscurity; for brightness, but we walk in darkness.

"We grope for the wall like the blind, and we grope as if we had no eyes; we stumble at noon day as in the night; we are in desolate places (among them that are lusty we are) as dead men."

This indictment of men generally for their faults and frailties might have been written by any clear-seeing searcher for the truth, so sharply does it delineate many, though by no means, all of the sins and evils so rampant today and committed openly without a sense or consciousness of guilt or shame.

The writer succinctly offers a few of the reasons why the men of those times failed to know God, and points out why men of our time continue to remain the poor humanly-shaped, though Divinely-designed, weaklings - victims of fate, an all-embracing term for the Reaction of all evils of whatever nature, the slaves of every passion that offers the possibility of a moment's pleasure, or a modicum of profit, as well as subservient to those persons bold enough to take advantage of them and their weaknesses.

Manisis, in one of his Interpretations of the Laws for the New dispensation, effectually sums up many of the modern weaknesses and sins so effective in retarding the Spiritual development of the race as a whole and which, unless there is a great change within a short time, will ultimately destroy the present civilization, which gave such great promise by its unprecedented progress during such a short period of time:

"The Souls of they brethren are guilty of shedding of the blood of others of god's children without the sanction of the Divine Law, which permits this only in the protection of life or their country's welfare, that they may profit in this world's goods, gain temporal power and set themselves above other men in high places, and not to the benefit of their brethren as a whole."

This has direct reference to many phases of the late wars and the shedding of the blood of those not actually concerned in any way; hence these wars were not sanctioned by the Divine Law, and were not necessary for the protection of country, women and children - these not being threatened.

Words that were spoken and written thirty years ago have ben amply confirmed during the passing years. Their implication is becoming more apparent daily and they are a warning that, if the new world is to be preserved as the last place of man's freedom as prophesied, the retracing of steps must begin immediately. Men and women and children must become conscious of their inheritance, progressively jealous of their privileges and zealous in recapturing their well-nigh lost liberties.

The Interpreter had in mind the welfare of his adopted country and its people, and the Laws that must govern in the New Order of the ages of Biblical prophecy. These Laws, embryo in this text, are for the guidance of all who seek the favor of god through obedience to the Divine Law. They give further voice to a terrible indictment in the Pastoral letter to his people during early 1925; having in mind the late carnage and envisioning the coming conflict which, by its involvements, would destroy all but the last vestiges of America's freedom.

"Thy brethren (some of those though by no means all, who remained at home and who were placed in positions of executive and directing power of one kind or another) sent many others of their brethren afield (overseas to fight), neglectfully destroying them, (supplying them with poor fare - foods either denatured in the process of manufacture or not sufficiently rich in sustaining and building elements, and therefore criminal under the law of Nature and of God) and robbed these brethren and their families ( allowed them a wage of approximately one dollar a day) while they unrighteously showered luxuries and preferment upon an infinitely greater number who remained at home (wages ranging from a few dollars to fabulous sums a day to workers in war material who were housed warmly and safely at home, suffered no denial whatever and were assured every human protection; still others, in executive positions, and manufactures amassed vast fortunes as a result of their position or their speculation in war material, which fortunes fundamentally were based on human carnage). These, thy brethren, (those in power, enrollment corps and otherwise) torn from the arms of fathers, mothers, brothers and sisters, aye, even of wives and children, not for thy Father's sake, but that they themselves might be safe and protected, whole other brethren were cast in the maelstrom of hatred and destruction. When the duty of these other brethren was (nobly) done - after many had gone to their Reward - and they returned home, their just earthly reward (the spoils of the conquerors) was unlawfully denied them. (Witness the general character of the reception to service men, the scandals among manufacturers, a notable instance being the harness makers, and of Bureaus formed ostensibly for the soldiers' welfare (1) the withholding of all profits made by those who had remained at home and engaged, in one way or another, in the manufacture of war material; the withholding of remuneration of any kind, while bonuses were being awarded ordinarily even after the service men returned home).

"For all these things, none of which have been to the benefit of the least of thy children, but which have sold into slavery millions of the innocent, they Father who governs through the operation of His Law, shall sit in heavy judgment upon all who have been, and continue to be, guilty, and their profits shall be as accursed forever. And their children, children's children and yet other children, in accordance with his Law that the ‘sins of the father shall be visited upon their children,' who benefit by these unholy spoils of unjust men, shall be called upon to ‘pay to the utmost farthing'."

And Manisis spake yet again:

"My son, Messenger of the New Order of the Ages, speak unto my children and warn them, that yet a little while shall it continue so. Men shall become yet more arrogant, selfish, and inconsiderate of others, and in their pride seek to gain even greater poser over those less strong than themselves.

"Then shall I, the Lord their god, sow wisdom (open their eyes) I the hearts of my laborers (all who produce actual necessities of life) and they shall hearken unto my Voice and shall fight fire with fire: the fires of selfishness (the steady encroachment of unjustly organized associations of every kind, be these produce exchanges, labor unions, legislative enactments, or other inimical organizations) with the fires of righteousness (justice to themselves and therefore to all men).

"They shall say unto the usurpers, "Ye have caused us to bow down unto your power (edicts, rules and regulations enacted to unfairly govern trade, and enforced restrictions against the producers of actual necessities by these others, through their vast power); now shall we obey the laws of our God and of Nature, and we shall labor only for ourselves (produce only for our own needs), and ye shall come to know the weight of the hand of the Lord (want) until ye have learned the Law (learned how to deal justly)'."

"And it shall come to pass that the Lord in his righteousness, after strengthening their hearts (the hearts of the producers of necessities) shall be with them and there shall be much suffering throughout the earth and great tribulations throughout the land. Then shall the many (the multitudes engaged in other than the production of necessities) awaken to the light (come into comprehension of the Law of Justice and equal exchange) and shall cast off the shackles of their masters (the exploiters of women and children and arrogant self-interest dictators of various organizations) and shall form a bond of fellowship (brotherhood), each man thereafter doing according to the Laws of the Father (doing his best and thereby helping his (less fortunate) brethren as need be. And it shall come to pass that my husbandmen shall be justified (he remunerated accordingly)."

These are the fundamental ever-operative Laws known as Personal Responsibility and the Law of Compensation. They are activated by the basic material-Spiritual Law of Action and Reaction; a Law that even the materialist and scientist will not contradict.

This far, men with few exceptions, have unthinkingly accepted the doctrine that deeds ranging from petty falsehoods to atrocious murder, could, might, through mere expressed repentance for the deed committed and the request for forgiveness, with or without intercession depending on the religious faith, be evaded by being thrown upon the shoulders of another.

This was supposed to end the matter in so far as the aggressor was concerned, irrespective of what might have happened to the fellow creature, even though it be father, mother, brother, sister, sweetheart or children whom he had wronged; and that he, by his mental act of casting aside his responsibility with a prayer no deeper than his throat, and without making any reparation whatever, would thereafter be free of his indebtedness and not called upon to compensate for the created indebtedness. Herein is found the nucleus of practically every crime committed by man since he became a conscious creature, endowed with Free Will to act as he pleased.

It is not creed or dogma, or even more religion of which man stands in need, but simply an honest man's sincere interpretation of the Divine Law, as it concerns his relationship between himself and his fellow man.

Man is in need of Spirituality, not of more words. Once men not only learn, but become conscious of the irrefutable fact that the Law of Compensation cannot be set aside, not even by God Himself, and that, no matter how contrite they may be for deeds committed, that by "whatever measure they mete it out, it shall likewise be measured unto them," they will begin to bethink themselves before they take advantage of their fellow men; fully recognizing that unjustified profit, mad at the expense of another, (whether or not that other is aware of it), is in the nature of a loan that must be repaid with interest.

Men of sense will hesitate before making such loans, being aware that they may be "called in" at any moment, when they least expect it or are prepared to meet the obligation. Misrepresentation and downright dishonesty, so universal in all business transactions today - in fact, in almost all dealings between man and man - is a gross and deliberate form of deceit, falsehood and betrayal of trust.

The practice of obtaining the things desired trough misrepresentation, and more or less violently, is becoming constantly more and more prevalent. Today, no method employed for self-benefit to obtain for one's self that which is desired, is too brutal, if the profit is sufficiently great. This condition is due in part to a non-comprehension of the Law of Action and Reaction and, as a result, the gradual degeneracy of the sense of honesty, morality, and responsibility in mankind generally.

A further exposition of the New Interpretation is found in the following statement by the Messenger of the New Age:

"Thy brethren live almost wholly in the flesh (in carnal desires due to their unenlightened and unawakened state of consciousness. This includes nearly all men today). They are at enmity with all men because they have not found the Father (unity and contentment) within their own selves (Souls).

Thy brethren glory in destruction (killing for the pleasure it offers and not of necessity) and in war (war, unless as a necessary measure of protection or for the sake of justice, is destructive to the Soul and brings damnation upon the Souls of all who are responsible). They become brutal (guilty of cruelty both because it seemingly brings pleasure and profit, and because they think it "manly."). They exploit both their brethren and the creatures of the field. (Nothing is sacred to the many seeking self-benefit, if it offers profit, as is readily illustrated by the accursed and accursing narcotic trade for which nations considered highly civilized are responsible, and the brutalizing and exploitation of the natives in countries termed "heathen").

"They speak loudly (preach and lecture continuously) of peace with strange people (foreign countries), unaware that there shall be no cessation of war and of rumors of war so long as brethren of one family cannot agree and live together without contention. Thy brethren prey upon one another as vultures upon the bodies of the dead (because it promises profit), and the Lord God cannot speak peace for them until they seek humility and strength (true devotion and Manhood glorified) within their own hearts."

And yet further spake the Lord God of Light, and to His Messenger:

"There is sadness in heaven (in all of the realms of right and Justice). They brethren have forgotten the true God and his laws and have set up for themselves temples of unrighteousness (halls of legislation wherein are created many enactments that in no sense have the welfare and protection of the people at heart) and idolatrous and blasphemous gods (men selected by the people in the belief that they will represent them honestly and pass no legislation that is not in every respect to their benefit, welfare, and protection) who seek not to reestablish the Laws governing man and the Universe in which he lives, moves and has his being, but rather to establish unjust statutes for the repression (not for the understanding and direction) of man's natural desires.

"Thus they bring confusion more confounding among my foolish (ignorant) children, who, because they no longer are able to hear my voice speaking unto them, have been misled and have lost faith in all Laws, even in Me, and live in open defiance of all Laws, and of the rights of their brethren, and bring swift destruction upon themselves and their brethren.

"And now it has come to pass that the children no longer respect and honor their parents (because these parents neither honor nor respect themselves), and the ignorant (meddlers) and selfish among your brethren set up unjust and unsanctioned (under the Divine Law) statutes (edicts) for their guidance and control, denying the natural parents this right and thereby bringing my displeasure (condemnation) upon them.

"And many of thy brethren, who themselves live as do the swine (wine-bibbers and gluttons and gamblers), have set themselves up as holy judges and pretend to say what their brethren shall or shall not do, which even I, the Lord, thy god, an not permitted to do. (God game men Free Will and the right of choice, and this privilege is inborn and inviolable so long as it does mot interfere with their rights or react to the harm or loss of others; not to one man or to a set of men, was this free will given but to all men and they have thereby made a parody of the freedom of choice.)

Your brethren are again enacting the scene of Babel by confusion, not of divers tongues but of many delusions (multiplicity of conflicting legislative enactments) which the multitudes must obey while the favored ones (legislators, political henchmen and professional reformers) go unpunished (may safely ignore and be in not fear of punishment as though above the law), and countless of they brethren profit unholy because of these unsanctified statutes (the professional reformers and henchmen who hold political positions by dishonesty in office and the acceptance of bribes, a crime now become universal) while the unfavored of this false kingdom (the non-political and laboring, working multitudes) are severely punished and degraded (heavily taxed and gradually becoming submerged through the various amendments to the Constitution and by having their right of choice and privilege taken from them).

And the vicious (political henchmen lacking honor and moral qualifications) among your brethren are seated in golden palaces (high places among men, with large remuneration and opportunity for unjust gains) (1) while the humble of my children (the honest workers) are yoked as oxen (forced to labor continuously and bear the burden of multiplicity of taxation.)

"I, the Lord thy God, lay onto thee: Yet a little while and I will fill the hearts of my children (all those now on earth who accept the dictates of the Divine Law and enter into the spirit of the Law by making every effort to live in harmony with it an help spread the truth of God's coming kingdom) with a consuming fire (awaken the honor-loving and just multitudes with a sense of justice and a strength without fear.)

"I will say unto them: 'Go, ye, cleanse my temples (places where God, justice and honor should be personified and manifested in the drafting of fair and impartial rules of conduct - laws - for the incentive of action by all men, to the special benefit of none) of the false guides and money changers (weaklings, grafters and those working for self-interest) and establish ye my kingdom (the rule of justice.)

"Behold! The sword of the Lord (an era of suffering, hunger, sorrow and pestilence) shall go before you and shall destroy all those who stand in the way (everything and everyone who attempts to evade the Divine Law or to force compliance by unjust and unrighteous enactments, rules or regulations of whatever sort.) Thus will I, they Lord, thy God, establish my kingdom on earth (for a thousand years)."

Despite the corruption of the times and of the hearts of (many) men, they are the sons of man, with all the necessary potentiality, possibility, and opportunity of becoming the Sons of God, as had other "men born of women" before them.

The genus homo generally has not yet developed to that stage where he is become truly man - the first essential to enter the path toward Godhead, which, essentially, is neither more nor less than man glorified, man exalted, man Illuminated.

Man has been living in ignorance of the Law. When at last he actually begins to comprehend the Law he will be anxious to so arrange his dealings with his fellow men that no one will be defrauded in any manner. By making this change he will find himself following the Path of Light.

The path of Light leads to life and yet more life. The awakened mind - the consciousness of a deeper significance to man's everyday activities - is the Key to the comprehension of the Law. The application of the Spirit of the Law leads to Soul Consciousness, which is Illumination. In this is the true life, both in the temporal and in the eternal realms.

Two thousand years ago, a humble laborer in god's vineyard preached to men saying: "The time is fulfilled and the Kingdom of God is at hand." _Mark 1:1. "Except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish." _Luke 13:5.

A liberal exposition of these sayings is: "The time promised by the prophets of old is being fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand (the time has come when, through the personification of the Law in their personalities, men may come into the Kingdom of God; the Conscious realization of one's inheritance, namely, sonship); repent ye (bestir yourself, awaken) "ye shall all likewise perish" (think, believe, live and act in full accordance with the Divine Law - the gospel as taught by him)." John here states the Law. Luke supplies the letter of the penalty; "And if you do not bethink yourself (if you do not awaken and harmonize your life and action according to the letter and Spirit of the Law), ye shall perish ("perish" has but on meaning - a complete loss, death to body and the personality will be the result - the kingdom of heaven - Immortalization - not being attained by the Soul)."

Men, with rare exceptions, have failed to pay heed to these admonitions, though more and more and more are beginning to accept the letter of the Law and unquestionably it is influencing their lives. The deterioration of character (loss of morality and all that is desirable and uplifting in human nature) has continued and is becoming greater and more pronounced until now, men, who are not even of the cloth, but are engaged in everyday affairs, are conscious of the decay both in individuals and in human relations - even among men of like temperament, who should be jealous of each others interests.
